Ok, so you want to start your own franchise. But you think to yourself, "Is it really a good idea to try to open a franchise in this economy? Everything is going downhill. Why would my business be any different?" Well, first you have to make a choice. When deciding what kind of franchise you want to get in to, you have to make the decision that makes the most sense for you. There are hundreds of franchises out there that would answer the question above by saying, "No, your business would not be any different." Those franchise opportunities are ones that you must veer away from right now. The type of franchise you need to open right now if you want to get into franchising is one that is recession resistant.
What do I mean by recession resistant? I mean a business that offers a service that everyone is going to continue using no matter what happens in the economy. Think about some examples of this: haircuts, medical care, nurseries, etc. People will have to continue using these services no matter what. You have to get a haircut or you will lose your job (that's why Great Clips, Supercuts, etc. are so useful). You have to have someone to watch your kids if you want to continue to work (all those franchises will get business because less and less people are staying home). And, you have to have a viable option for medical care in case you get sick.
As CEO of Rhino 7 Franchise Development Company, I have set up hundreds of people with franchises across the country. One of the newest ventures I've come across is called Doctors Express, the nation's first national urgent care franchise. This is one of those opportunities that you know people will still need the service in a down economy. Especially now that companies are cutting costs, many people do not have health insurance and urgent care is their best option at that point. Even if someone has health insurance, do they really want to set up a doctor's appointment for two or three weeks away, or worse, wait in an ER for hours if it is an emergency? That is why people turn to urgent care, because it is a convenient and cost-efficient option for healthcare.
These are all just a few examples. Recession resistant businesses are a solid option right now in this economy and a really good idea. With President Obama's new economic stimulus plan, there will be more money than ever for small businesses. No one wants to start one right now, so when you have an idea for a recession resistant business, you are ahead of the game. People will continue to use your services no matter what, because they don't have a choice and your business will prosper through the economic recession.
