Franchise Development Pro's Let's Use the Same Dictionary! - Click To Read Article
A very well meaning Director of Franchise Sales and a counterpart on the Internet attempting to draw advertising and leads for them just wrote about their "risk resistant" business. Rubbish (And, if you want a great recession resistant company get back to me...it has something to do with Rubbish!) I think we are all using the same vocabulary (we all use the word "risk") but different dictionaries. (I love the concept talked about, Spring Green, for the right market and the right candidate...but not just any candidate with the hope of "risk-resistance".)

I recently read that there are approximately 13.7 million people unemployed as of April 2009. 3.7 million of those have been jobless for half a year or better (27 weeks or more). It is no wonder why so many have begun to turn to franchising or small business ownership as an alternative. We all have grown weary in the workplace of the lack of security and even-handedness in the career market.

Your Franchise Choice and Risk

If you were to ask a franchise candidate, "Why do you want to start a business?" You are first going to hear such things as... I want more control More flexibility More time with the family, Better work/life balance ...and I want to keep more of what I work so hard to generate Or, put another way, many people enter franchising because they believe the effort they expend to create riches for others would be best spent in generating wealth for themselves...or, at least MORE wealth than they are currently accumulating from their efforts in their chosen and current career.

Ask These Questions Before Becoming A Franchisee

Recently I took a short business trip which required some air travel. My traveling companion on the way back, not getting my subtle hint of isolation that my Ipod Touch and headphones projected asked me about my trip and then my profession. What followed was a series of questions that started out in very familiar terms: "You know, I have always wondered about getting into business for myself but I'm not sure I'm qualified or that it's right for me. " What followed was most of the following questions that are commonplace and typical. So, in only a mild order of importance or, more to the point the way they seem to flow, are my twelve or so typical questions people have burning in their bosoms about franchise business ownership. Check them Out...

I live in Arizona where everyone comes from somewhere else and in the summer no one opens there doors. Can you imagine how grateful we are for the communication technologies that our new world offers? But something very wrong has occurred and it may be threatening your business...

Alternative Franchise Funding - Check it Our Service Franchises!

The proliferation of B2B franchises - service based franchises - coaching and consulting franchise opportunities has created a whole new category and level of need for financing. It's been hard enough if you were a capital based franchise (we need build-out, equipment, vehicles, etc.) For a time it seemed all small business capital had dried up. It is a bit better but not a lot. Today, non-capital intense businesses whose primary needs are working capital, capital for growth (more territory, expansion of marketing efforts, etc.) and only minor capital expenditures compared to manufacturing and retail types still may require capital in addition to their candidates capabilities. Where do they go? Where does anyone go? Are there alternatives?

Master Licensing Franchises - A Change of Heart

The odds are against success. The numbers don't lie. The challenges facing the operations of a larger small business development compared to a smaller business component is significant enough that it is best to start smaller, ensure your grip on the business model and then grow from there. These are all expressions I have used. For the most part I still believe these...IF we were talking 5 years ago I would stand by them, in front of them, behind them and arm myself on all of the information that supports them. Today is a different day however.

Sometime back I created this list of questions an entrepreneur should ask before deciding to franchise their business and recently found someone had took it word for word from my old blog and reposted it on another franchise "experts" blog site.

Everyone has heard of it by now. Very few know how to use it and I suggest that many franchises are still missing out on a major marketing process by continuing in the dark ages by ignoring it. I am talking about Search Engine Optimization. Search Engine Optimization or SEO is a powerful Internet tool aimed to increase brand, product and service visibility and your business presence on the web. Since the Internet is now the primary source of information and goods for multi-market and Top 100 regional market companies and service providers, it only makes sense to be as visible as possible in order to attract and meet the needs of your prospects, clients and customers.

Buying A Franchise: Some Do's & Don't

Life has a way of manipulating the circumstances and the conditions. Often executives and those vulnerable to economic downturns turn to consideration of business ownership. I'm often asked when I speak to groups, "Are there some hard and fast rules of doing a proper examination or investigation of the various kinds or brands? Can you better understand the business if you do certain things?" The answer is mostly yes. The more you actually know the more confident you are once you make a decision. But there are dangers as well. Often we study so much the line becomes blurred between what is factual and actual and what is someone's overly blustered and inaccurately stated opinion or random thoughts. Here are some things I recommend to you that you DO:

Franchising And the Art of Selling Change

I recently got onto a plane, settled in with my computer case at hand, my ipod Touch at the ready - my Bose headset set up and my computer in my pre-planned position to swipe it out of said aforementioned case. Then came the flight attendant. He looked at me, grinned and asked if I would "be so kind" to switch seats with a husband who was needed by his wife so the two of them could keep their baby from exploding onto the passengers in and around where she was currently seated. Now, here I am. I am comfortable. I have perfected my environment. And this clown disrupts my mental zen. Further it will require some deliberate focus and nurturing to get me back on track once I have settled into my new digs.
