What Would Your Franchise Business Say If It Could Talk To You?

Written by: Glenn Walford

Article Overview: Exactly what would your business say to you if it could talk? The answers from every single owner would be intriguing I am certain. Many franchise consultants will attest to the fact that unfortunately a number of franchise owners carry on operating their businesses in ways that are often in spite of advice and suggestions that are given to them over a sustained period. This by no means applies to all owners, but applies to enough to make it of concern. What your business would say to you if it could speak should provoke a great deal of thought and re-assessment in you if you are serious about maximizing the franchise you have.

What Would Your Franchise Business Say If It Could Talk To You?

Have you ever wondered what your business would say to you if it had a voice? Do you especially wonder what it would say about your own performance, the way you run it and what you get up to in it?

I am going to take a stab at what I think a pretty typical franchise business would say to many of its franchise owners and its up to you what you get out of it.

So here we go;

Hi boss, I just wanted to say a few words about our time together so far and in going forward from here.

I’m excited about where I think we are going and I’m appreciative of where we have been. I know you always try to do your best and do what you think is right, but looking at it from my perspective, what you think is right or the way to do things is not necessarily always the best for me.

You see what you think is influenced by so many things like your experiences, friends & family, peers, and worst of all your biases. All this can and does take away your perspective on what is best for me and us – and that is what really matters.

My worry for you and us is that you will shut out opportunities for us to grow together because they are not what you are used to, or that they are a little confronting or uncomfortable compared to what you think right now. Maybe they even challenge you personally.

I know I have seen you do this in past when you didn’t give a suggestion or piece of advice much thought or time before you knocked it back. You probably wouldn’t agree but deep down you know when you have taken an “I know better approach”.

Take the advice that is offered from people who have either seen it, or done it them self count less times.

We are also missing out on ways for me to grow because you come to work here everyday and work so hard on doing the things you should be training and paying others to do for you. That’s why you bought me so that you could be your own boss and make great profits. I don’t like it when I see you doing things the others are paid by you to do.

I want thriving growth and I know you do too, but you need to let go of thinking you have to always do everything.

You bought into a network that has systems to run me and you should be running these systems, not running me!

I would feel so much better if you trained the team up to run me and you were mainly working on ways to make me grow even faster. You can’t do that while you are here running me everyday, it’s just not possible.

Anyway please do give this lots of thought as I am here really only to provide prosperity not perspiration and worry for you.

Let’s grow!

Your Business

Well, if any of this rings true for you there is no time like the present to take a step back from your business to give yourself the clarity you need to make some decisions. Decisions that can ultimately impact in one way or another on every aspect of your life.

My hope if this applies to you is that increased perspective leads to a decrease in perspiration for you in your business.

Re: Info for would be franchisers... Re: Info for would be franchisers... -
Like Franchise Times, Franchise Update is a very practical magazine. There is no blah blah, just straight facts that anyone in the franchise community can relate to. I just want to mention that all these magazines are NOT franchisee oriented. I mean these magazines are for franchise professionals. If you're looking to buy a franchise, you won't find much information in there. To answer your question, getting published in Franchise Times was fairly easy. I don't want to brag too much but I think I am known in the franchise industry. I was the marketing guy at Franchise.com for a few years before joining my new company, the World Franchising Network. So people know me and I have a very good relationship with Nancy Weingartner, the Managing Editor at Franchise Times. I was talking with her at the last Franchise Expo South in Miami and she mentioned she'd like me to be profiled. I was like "ok, sure!". I like this franchise executive profile thing in Franchise Times as it is rarely BS. People are usually really natural in there.[/quote:1d29sdv1] Thanks for the follow up Sebastien! And I can't say that I'm surprised that networking with the right people and managing your relationships with them properly are the keys to being published. I guess the old adage holds true of "it's not who you know, but who knows you" that's important.
how much for a franchise fee? how much for a franchise fee? - Dear Colleague There is no easy answer to this question. Things to consider:
The sizeof the Franchise Clent base Expected Turnover Intellectual Property costs (recoup) Number of Franchises Number of employees Original Set up costs Franchise admin costs An example: A franchise that I was involved in setting was to a simple "lawn mowing/home repair" franchise. The Franchise included national/local advertising - preparation of client lists - general admin - central accounting etc The Franchise involved 300-500 clients - and an annual turnover of about $300,000 . The annual franchise fee was $30,000. Hope that this gives you some idea Take care Ian
Fed rate cuts . . . Fed rate cuts . . . - So just what do the newest Fed rate cuts mean to Franchise and Business Opportunity investing? Is it immediately felt? What timeframe do you think, or rather, where are we in terms of new vs. existing business investment? A similar question can be composed for the economic stimulus checks - will they a have any effect if consumers spend a little $$
