Am I Cut Out to Work For Myself?

Who wouldn’t want to get up in the morning and report to oneself? Being a business owner is a dream that every one of us have at a point in our lives. But not everyone can make the transition from working under somebody to working for oneself. It’s true that franchising helps any one with general business skills to become a business owner; but even in such a safe line, you need certain qualities to become successful. So, if you are thinking about starting a franchise, answer the following questions honestly, before you start looking at different franchise opportunities.

Am I motivated enough? The desire to excel should be there in you, if you want to work for yourself. It will act as the thrust that will propel you to work hard. But, if you are not motivated enough and have no one to answer, then you can turn into a lazy and careless fellow. In that situation, starting a franchise of even the best franchises in the business cannot save you from failure!

Am I cooperative enough? If you are planning to leave the job because you don’t like to work under someone, then starting an independent business is always a better option. Franchise business is not a good option for you, if you are too much of an individualistic; because in this business, you have to listen and follow the franchisor.

Am I resourceful? When you are on your own, you have to do many jobs simultaneously. Also, you need to learn how to best use your resources in such a way that will minimize your spending. Hence, being resourceful is a must when you are working for yourself (whether as a stand-alone entrepreneur or as a franchisee).

Am I professional enough? People go for branded services or products, because they portray a professional image. Hence, when you are working alone, you have to make sure that you handle everything very professionally. Even if you have a home-based franchise, be there on time and dress appropriately. Keep all your appointments and call back clients and other references within reasonable time-period. But that doesn’t mean you become a workaholic; strictly divide your working time and family time. You don’t need to end up working all your time just because you are working for yourself!
