Franchising Offers a New Career Path
Franchising Offers a New Career Path
• The first step of reinventing your career as a franchisee is carrying out adequate research of the market. Decide beforehand what category you want to join, as there are lots of concepts to choose from. Select something where your interests lie; even if you do not have experience in that field. Most franchisors are looking for individuals with excellent management and people-skills and they are happy to take even a fresher under their wings. So, if you always wanted to be a pizza chef, here is your chance of owning a successful pizzeria without having to master the art of pizza-making! Moreover, you get to choose a company that fits your budget. Of course, don’t forget to observe the present market scenario before opting for that segment. For example, if the market is saturated with numerous pizza outlets, then it is better to open a Mexican fast-food franchising business, if the food and restaurant industry is the segment you prefer.
• Securing a good financial base should be your next step in entering this new career path. Most UFOC and the franchisors themselves will give you a rough estimate of how much money you will need. But, it’s your job to arrange for that money. One of the most prominent sources is, of course, the SBA-backed loans, which sometimes pay as high as 75% of the required money! If you are not keen on taking a loan, then financing through your IRA schemes or taking helps from friends and family members are certainly good options. But, always keep two things in mind. Never touch your retirement and children-education funds and arrange at least 50% extra amount on top of your estimated budget. Taking help of experienced accountants can be another alternative.
• Another major step in the process will be getting your family-members to support you. The change of your career-path will affect them the most, so they should always be taken into consideration before you change your plan. They can also be good practicing ground for enhancing your selling power. If you cannot sell your dream to your partner, how will you convince your lenders about your ability?
