Key Factors to Franchise Success

Everyone buys a franchise with the ultimate aim of succeeding as a franchisee. But just buying won’t give you a guarantee that you will be successful. In order to find success, you have to work hard and be steadfast in your resolve. To help you along the way, here are some keys to open the door to success:

Willingness to learn: For franchisors, the ideal candidate to answer their franchise business for sale offer is someone who is willing to learn. The franchisors have perfected the business model after years of hard work and have learned from their mistakes. That is why they want to help their franchisees learn how to avoid those mistakes. Hence, the first key to franchise success is that you have to be a willing learner. Even if you know all about the field you have joined, you need to keep the slate clean, so that the franchisor can teach you its way of executing business.

Working in a team: Franchising entails team work and you are supposed to be a good team player to succeed in a franchise system. You have to work not only with the franchisor (and that too with excellent coordination), but also with other franchisees in the system, manufacturers, suppliers and your employees, if there’s any. And that is just the backroom work; the actual work is dealing with your customers in a proper way! So, the second key to franchise success is team spirit.

Being Committed: There are many franchise opportunities, which clearly mention that only people who can commit full-time will be eligible for their franchise business for sale offers. If you belong to this group, then you have to honor your commitment, once you have started the franchise. Just being present in the location is not enough; you are supposed to attend the regular franchisor-franchisee meetings and training sessions that the top franchises arrange from time to time.

Having patience: Success in the field franchising won’t come overnight! You have to work for months, before you start making profits from your business. But, if you start losing focus, because you haven’t started to earn profits, then chances are that you won’t go far! Any good businessperson knows that “Patience is a virtue” and franchising is no different. Even the best franchises need some time to settle down. Success will surely come, if you are committed in your resolve. Moreover, you have to learn to take the bad things along with the good. If things don’t look great in the present, you will have to bear it and plan for the future. Also, try to find the reason for the slow business and look into your own faults before blaming others. Everyone makes mistakes, but only the successful learn from them and overcome them.

Re: Info for would be franchisers... Re: Info for would be franchisers... -
Like Franchise Times, Franchise Update is a very practical magazine. There is no blah blah, just straight facts that anyone in the franchise community can relate to. I just want to mention that all these magazines are NOT franchisee oriented. I mean these magazines are for franchise professionals. If you're looking to buy a franchise, you won't find much information in there. To answer your question, getting published in Franchise Times was fairly easy. I don't want to brag too much but I think I am known in the franchise industry. I was the marketing guy at Franchise.com for a few years before joining my new company, the World Franchising Network. So people know me and I have a very good relationship with Nancy Weingartner, the Managing Editor at Franchise Times. I was talking with her at the last Franchise Expo South in Miami and she mentioned she'd like me to be profiled. I was like "ok, sure!". I like this franchise executive profile thing in Franchise Times as it is rarely BS. People are usually really natural in there.[/quote:1d29sdv1] Thanks for the follow up Sebastien! And I can't say that I'm surprised that networking with the right people and managing your relationships with them properly are the keys to being published. I guess the old adage holds true of "it's not who you know, but who knows you" that's important.
how much for a franchise fee? how much for a franchise fee? - Dear Colleague There is no easy answer to this question. Things to consider:
The sizeof the Franchise Clent base Expected Turnover Intellectual Property costs (recoup) Number of Franchises Number of employees Original Set up costs Franchise admin costs An example: A franchise that I was involved in setting was to a simple "lawn mowing/home repair" franchise. The Franchise included national/local advertising - preparation of client lists - general admin - central accounting etc The Franchise involved 300-500 clients - and an annual turnover of about $300,000 . The annual franchise fee was $30,000. Hope that this gives you some idea Take care Ian
Re: Franchise Surveys Re: Franchise Surveys - Another good tool to researching a franchise is to speak with their existing franchisees. This contact information is included in most Franchise Disclosure Documents. In order to get a Franchise Disclosure Document or FDD as it is often referred to, you will have to complete a basic franchise application. The franchisor will then usually provide you with the FDD at that time. Included in that book of information is a list of the existing franchisees, the contract, the investment information etc... This information is required by Federal Law to be disclosed to your prior to making a purchase. So be sure to do your research and start with the Franchise Documents to get the initial information.

We lead busy lives and when people fill their magazines with fluff, not only does it benefit no one, but it makes us truly appreciate those that don't. Thanks!
