No matter what they tell you, certain prior skills and experience are needed when you go to buy a franchise. Most franchises, even the best franchises, take in people with no experience, but as entrepreneurs. They all want candidates who have experience in other fields, which are utilized by them to turn the candidates into expert franchisees. So, if you are thinking about starting a franchise, look into your resume once more and see what kind of experience you have. Most franchise opportunities don’t call for industry-specific skills (except very few); they need people with general business skills to run their franchises. Here are some job skills that you can translate into a career as a franchise owner:

• Have you been working in such a position that called for team work? Were you a supervisor of a team for many years? Then why not use that leadership skill to buy a franchise of any of the service-based franchise opportunities in the market! Maid-service, janitorial-service and handyman-service are some of the franchise concepts that look for an efficient team leader to guide a team of workers. • Did you regularly communicate with different kinds of people in your job and really enjoyed it? This contact information is included in most Franchise Disclosure Documents. In order to get a Franchise Disclosure Document or FDD as it is often referred to, you will have to complete a basic franchise application. The franchisor will then usually provide you with the FDD at that time. Included in that book of information is a list of the existing franchisees, the contract, the investment information etc... This information is required by Federal Law to be disclosed to your prior to making a purchase. So be sure to do your research and start with the Franchise Documents to get the initial information.
