Webinars Can Be a Valuable Franchise Industry Tool

Written by: Michael Hemenway

Article Overview: Webinars can link franchisees and franchisors in a whole new way. Interested potential franchisees can get more information and explore web-based "discovery days" without the expense and hassle of traveling to the corporate site. Franchisors can create one webinar and allow franchisees to explore it at his or her leisure, without interrupting other work at the corporate level. Unlike a webcast, webinars can allow interaction, such as questions and clarifications.

Webinars Can Be a Valuable Franchise Industry Tool

The Internet has changed the way the franchising industry works. From getting information of franchises to applying for them, Internet has come up as the most preferred form of communication. Now, it has gone one step ahead with webinars that are like seminars, but held over the net. It has made communication between franchisors and franchisees easier; they do not have to leave the comfort of their offices to communicate with each other. Teleconferencing can be communicative, but you cannot see any visual presentation through it and video conferencing is still costly. The more effective and popular alternative is webinar where the participating groups meet at specified date and time on a specific URL and see any presentation or seminar that the host is giving.

Unlike webcast, a webinar allows you to ask questions. The host can speak over standard telephone line while the presentation is being displayed and the audience can ask or clarify points through their speaker phones. Some webinar hosting services incorporate the use of VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), thereby, eliminating the requirements of external devices such as telephone and making the process totally web driven. The webinars can also be recorded and viewed later on and can be used for surveys and polls. Audiences can “chat” through text chats to get live answers for their queries.

Webinar is economical as the money that is spent on traditional seminars and meetings are huge compared to that spent on a webinar. Moreover, a franchisee that could not attain the webinar can catch all the action later or re-read the question answer part in order to clarify a point. The web servers that host webinars usually charge on per user per minute basis or on a fixed monthly basis. brandEXPANSION can help you in this matter through Franchise Ultra Lounge, its webinar hosting site. So if you were planning to held a lavish seminar, let escape it and instead opt for a cost and time-saving webinar.

Re: Info for would be franchisers... Re: Info for would be franchisers... -
Like Franchise Times, Franchise Update is a very practical magazine. There is no blah blah, just straight facts that anyone in the franchise community can relate to. I just want to mention that all these magazines are NOT franchisee oriented. I mean these magazines are for franchise professionals. If you're looking to buy a franchise, you won't find much information in there. To answer your question, getting published in Franchise Times was fairly easy. I don't want to brag too much but I think I am known in the franchise industry. I was the marketing guy at Franchise.com for a few years before joining my new company, the World Franchising Network. So people know me and I have a very good relationship with Nancy Weingartner, the Managing Editor at Franchise Times. I was talking with her at the last Franchise Expo South in Miami and she mentioned she'd like me to be profiled. I was like "ok, sure!". I like this franchise executive profile thing in Franchise Times as it is rarely BS. People are usually really natural in there.[/quote:1d29sdv1] Thanks for the follow up Sebastien! And I can't say that I'm surprised that networking with the right people and managing your relationships with them properly are the keys to being published. I guess the old adage holds true of "it's not who you know, but who knows you" that's important.
how much for a franchise fee? how much for a franchise fee? - Dear Colleague There is no easy answer to this question. Things to consider:
The sizeof the Franchise Clent base Expected Turnover Intellectual Property costs (recoup) Number of Franchises Number of employees Original Set up costs Franchise admin costs An example: A franchise that I was involved in setting was to a simple "lawn mowing/home repair" franchise. The Franchise included national/local advertising - preparation of client lists - general admin - central accounting etc The Franchise involved 300-500 clients - and an annual turnover of about $300,000 . The annual franchise fee was $30,000. Hope that this gives you some idea Take care Ian
Re: Franchise Surveys Re: Franchise Surveys - Another good tool to researching a franchise is to speak with their existing franchisees. This contact information is included in most Franchise Disclosure Documents. In order to get a Franchise Disclosure Document or FDD as it is often referred to, you will have to complete a basic franchise application. The franchisor will then usually provide you with the FDD at that time. Included in that book of information is a list of the existing franchisees, the contract, the investment information etc... This information is required by Federal Law to be disclosed to your prior to making a purchase. So be sure to do your research and start with the Franchise Documents to get the initial information.
