A change of direction with a Franchise Business

At different points in our lives, all of us tend to take time to ponder on the course our life is taking and our future. This is often true when it comes to our occupation or job circumstances. Sometimes, it is simply to confirm that the career choices we have made are the right ones for now, or it may be a growing sense that its time for a change or to move on to something new.

If you're currently in that state of contemplating your employment future, then one aspect you might be thinking about is the chances of working for yourself, or going self-employed. Many individuals consider self-employment because it offers flexibility and the liberty to manage time as you want whilst also providing a foundation to provide for your family and work on an enterprise that's your own.

The problem might come down to finding a job opportunity that will achieve your dream or that could at least show itself to be profitable. In you are one of those fortunate enough to have some great ideas that could work then you may already be determined to build your own personal business based on these ideas. But if you are the kind that need just a little help in the concept department, a franchise business could help put your mind to rest on many of the concerns surrounding self-employment.

Starting up a franchise business is basically starting up your personal venture using someone elses proven business design. The advantage of this is primarily the fact that you are starting out with a business model which has already been tried, tested and refined, so that you already know in practise that it can form the foundation of a worthwhile business. As well as this, most franchisors present relevant coaching and help so that you can take full advantage of the franchise business concept and drive it to its maximum potential.

If you are wondering if starting up a franchise business could be the answer for you, step one shall be to find out the most suitable type of business for you. There are actually tons of franchise systems available within the UK and so identifying the correct one for you may appear to be quite a challenge at first. Fortunately, the advent of the Web has helped take away a lot of this by making use of a number of the various franchise web site directories online. These websites provide useful search tools that allow you to narrow down the various franchise options into a brief checklist that can fit your preferences and budget.

So, if you are considering starting up your own venture, a franchise could possibly be a route to the new future you've been looking for.

Re: Starbucks: Licensing vs Joint-Venture Re: Starbucks: Licensing vs Joint-Venture - Its "growing pains" on a successful franchise level. If you think about it, could anyone have actually ever predicted Starbuck's most recent outcome? They are now struggling to do something they did so well all along, simply change, or at least alter what direction they were headed. No matter what your idea of where your business should be is, for the future, outside determining factors will most certainly change - its your ability to change and follow the natural business course (if there is one) that then becomes significant. Simply, have a good idea of what it is you want to be in business, but don't force out change along the way. Adapt to it, or at least try and learn to adapt to the change.

Re: Info for would be franchisers... Re: Info for would be franchisers... -
Like Franchise Times, Franchise Update is a very practical magazine. There is no blah blah, just straight facts that anyone in the franchise community can relate to. I just want to mention that all these magazines are NOT franchisee oriented. I mean these magazines are for franchise professionals. If you're looking to buy a franchise, you won't find much information in there. To answer your question, getting published in Franchise Times was fairly easy. I don't want to brag too much but I think I am known in the franchise industry. I was the marketing guy at Franchise.com for a few years before joining my new company, the World Franchising Network. So people know me and I have a very good relationship with Nancy Weingartner, the Managing Editor at Franchise Times. I was talking with her at the last Franchise Expo South in Miami and she mentioned she'd like me to be profiled. I was like "ok, sure!". I like this franchise executive profile thing in Franchise Times as it is rarely BS. People are usually really natural in there.[/quote:1d29sdv1] Thanks for the follow up Sebastien! And I can't say that I'm surprised that networking with the right people and managing your relationships with them properly are the keys to being published. I guess the old adage holds true of "it's not who you know, but who knows you" that's important.
how much for a franchise fee? how much for a franchise fee? - Dear Colleague There is no easy answer to this question. Things to consider:
The sizeof the Franchise Clent base Expected Turnover Intellectual Property costs (recoup) Number of Franchises Number of employees Original Set up costs Franchise admin costs An example: A franchise that I was involved in setting was to a simple "lawn mowing/home repair" franchise. The Franchise included national/local advertising - preparation of client lists - general admin - central accounting etc The Franchise involved 300-500 clients - and an annual turnover of about $300,000 . The annual franchise fee was $30,000. Hope that this gives you some idea Take care Ian
Fed rate cuts . . . Fed rate cuts . . . - So just what do the newest Fed rate cuts mean to Franchise and Business Opportunity investing? Is it immediately felt? What timeframe do you think, or rather, where are we in terms of new vs. existing business investment? A similar question can be composed for the economic stimulus checks - will they a have any effect if consumers spend a little $$
