Effective franchise marketing

Protect your market share...

It's always important to 'lead your pack' and it is has never been more important to do this than now. Franchisors are operating within a highly competitive market place with new rival businesses (both franchises and independents) popping up to snatch your market share. Due to this, it is vital to use all the tools you have to effectively market your franchise.

National marketing campaign...

Marketing through franchising is often seen as split between marketing the overall franchisor package and providing a good solid national campaign that offers value for your franchisees hard earned royalties. When these approaches are combined, they ensure further interest in your business model when they are brought together within a seamless and integrated approach.

Stay one step ahead...

Being a franchisor means that you act and operate as a leader. You always need to have the answers; you always need to know the latest statistics and you must always try to be one step ahead of your competitors. An effective way of achieving a good balance between all these various weights is through utilising your Template Franchise. For many Franchisors, a Template Franchise is simply the area or region where their head office is, whilst also being the area where their head office team provide their own products or services locally. This continual 'hands on' approach to keeping in touch with shop floor activity, enables franchisors to interact and relate to their franchisees on many different levels.

There are five main ways to make the most of your template franchise:

Use your template as a marketing tool; for example; get testimonials from happy customers and create affiliations with other local businesses (that could work well in other areas for your franchisees)

Use your template to create a good stage for prospective franchisees to view; creating first hand experience (the best marketing test!)

Use a template to try out new product developments; to stay ahead of the competition and maintain your leadership title within your own franchise family

Use a template as a benchmark of quality; set industry standards and stand out from the crowd thus creating a fabulous sustainable competitive advantage.

The 'do as we do' example; show that you can really walk your own talk
One client that I have worked with since the launch of their franchise has used these techniques to build further value into their franchise package. As well as battling through the thousands of advertising messages that prospective franchisees are exposed to every day, you can help them to understand the theory behind your business through exposing them to it on a first hand basis. This gives prospective franchisees a real feel for how it might be if they bought into your ideas and became one of your franchisees. Surely a priceless marketing sensory experience that many companies just can’t achieve or compete with.

Using PR in the Franchise Business Using PR in the Franchise Business - I just recently wrote an article on this so I thought I would post something to the forum and get some opinions on it. My thought was that most people that buy a franchise think they have to do everything themselves. Its understandable that you feel like everything you put in to the business should be yours because that ends up being what you get in return, but it shouldn't be the case. I strongly encourage franchisees to use a PR or marketing firm if they have the financial ability to do so. PR and marketing professionals do those things for a living and know better how to get the word out about your franchise. You know how to run the franchise, they know how to get the word out. So if you can, I highly suggest using one of these types of firms. What do you think about this concept?
Franchise Franchise - Guys, After searching for franchise in food industry which I am familiar with, (no full service, quick stuff like Dunkin Donuts, Jack in the box type etc..) Where I live most of the good ones are taken or corporate own. I live in AZ, does any one recommend a good franchise ? Most of the one I search are no good or brand new lack marketing power, and it’s not worth even getting into. For instance, the franchise I am in currently is a food business the food is nice, but it’s a failing concept, lack of marketing and lack of franchisor support... I think they given up in their own concept. I don’t know want to invest in another concept where I will be doing all the work. Does anyone know any good concept that can actually have a good ROI? Thank you

Re: Franchising Brokers vs Franchising Consultants Re: Franchising Brokers vs Franchising Consultants - Franchise consultants are free and work with you without any obligation. they do not work for any one franchise but do get a percentage of the franchise fee when a franchisee that was registered with the franchise came from the consultant and the franchisee signs. They will try to match up your interests and skills to franchise businesses that are right for you. They can explain franchise guidelines and help you in any way they can. Franchise brokers usually get paid by the client and/ or franchise (generally get some type of commission). Additionally, they can get points or referral fee off the deal if they refer you to a lending resource too after they sell you on a franchise. Typcally they will try to sell a prospective franchisee on a larger deal so they get a larger commission.
Re: Which franchise would you buy? Re: Which franchise would you buy? - The franchise to buy, the one that will succeed is the one that is either underrepresented or not represented in the community. Look at your community, identify what service is missing. That is the franchise to pursue. Too many people buy a franchise based on their "heart". A franchise is a "widget". I have found that once people began to investigate a franchise they had never thought of, but find their is a need; the entrepreneurial "gene" kicks in and they get excited. They began seeing the possibilities of success, and as they uncover the nuances of the franchise, they become more interested. It is the uninformed that are uninspired.
