Finding the best Franchise business for yourself

A franchise business can act as a good selection for many people as it could effectively be a type of supported self-employment. While a franchise business boasts a business ownership option, the franchise owner should generally offer education and on going support in addition to being a confirmed franchise formula on which to develop a business.

How then could you find the top franchise business to suit your needs? What are some of the important elements that have to be taken into account?

Confirmed System

The core of the franchise business is its verified system. By piloting a business idea, a franchisor should demonstrate that their business style and formula works and is profitable. This may then be replicated by anyone who desires to buy into the franchise idea and devote themselves to sticking to the established system. Have a good look at the business concept and look to see if it has a proven track record.

Proven history

The track record can be established by contacting the franchisor and enquiring on details of their pilot businesses and how well they performed. Talking to any established franchisees is also essential to determine how the franchise system is functioning for them and if they are trading profitably. You may also seek the advice of the franchise sections of a few of the key high street banks. When they have knowledge of the franchise, and are already lending finance to current franchisees, this is a pretty good sign.

Finance

Its also crucial that you consider what you may have the funds for. Any purchase capital you have got yourself, might possibly be pooled with any financing a bank can provide, so chat to a few of the major high street banks about financing to evaluate what your purchase potential is. This will help you to explore franchise offerings that meet your budget and not throw away time considering those you can't find the money for.

Gut Feel

Its also crucial that you first meet the franchise owner face-to-face and establish how you feel about working with them. Franchising isn’t a totally self-supporting selection, but one which may sometimes require interaction involving you as the franchise operator, or franchisee, and the franchise brand owner, or franchisor.

Re: Info for would be franchisers... Re: Info for would be franchisers... -
Like Franchise Times, Franchise Update is a very practical magazine. There is no blah blah, just straight facts that anyone in the franchise community can relate to. I just want to mention that all these magazines are NOT franchisee oriented. I mean these magazines are for franchise professionals. If you're looking to buy a franchise, you won't find much information in there. To answer your question, getting published in Franchise Times was fairly easy. I don't want to brag too much but I think I am known in the franchise industry. I was the marketing guy at Franchise.com for a few years before joining my new company, the World Franchising Network. So people know me and I have a very good relationship with Nancy Weingartner, the Managing Editor at Franchise Times. I was talking with her at the last Franchise Expo South in Miami and she mentioned she'd like me to be profiled. I was like "ok, sure!". I like this franchise executive profile thing in Franchise Times as it is rarely BS. People are usually really natural in there.[/quote:1d29sdv1] Thanks for the follow up Sebastien! And I can't say that I'm surprised that networking with the right people and managing your relationships with them properly are the keys to being published. I guess the old adage holds true of "it's not who you know, but who knows you" that's important.
how much for a franchise fee? how much for a franchise fee? - Dear Colleague There is no easy answer to this question. Things to consider:
The sizeof the Franchise Clent base Expected Turnover Intellectual Property costs (recoup) Number of Franchises Number of employees Original Set up costs Franchise admin costs An example: A franchise that I was involved in setting was to a simple "lawn mowing/home repair" franchise. The Franchise included national/local advertising - preparation of client lists - general admin - central accounting etc The Franchise involved 300-500 clients - and an annual turnover of about $300,000 . The annual franchise fee was $30,000. Hope that this gives you some idea Take care Ian
Re: Franchise Surveys Re: Franchise Surveys - Another good tool to researching a franchise is to speak with their existing franchisees. This contact information is included in most Franchise Disclosure Documents. In order to get a Franchise Disclosure Document or FDD as it is often referred to, you will have to complete a basic franchise application. The franchisor will then usually provide you with the FDD at that time. Included in that book of information is a list of the existing franchisees, the contract, the investment information etc... This information is required by Federal Law to be disclosed to your prior to making a purchase. So be sure to do your research and start with the Franchise Documents to get the initial information.
Re: Where is the best place to find a web developer? Re: Where is the best place to find a web developer? - That's a really tough one. Finding a business partner is like finding a wife - it takes a lot of trust to get the right one. I would try to hang out at tech-related startup events and see if you hit it off with anybody. Good luck!
