Franchise Business can offer opportunities for a new future

All of us reach times where we consider somes changes in our lives. Maybe it’s wanting a location change, a new car or wanting to improve your fitness. The actual fact is that though most of us do want routine, we ultimately get drained and need something brand new to get our teeth into.

Working in the same career for prolonged periods could also have this effect for some people. For a number of them it might be a growing feeling that they could do with a change in the way their life is going and for others it might be just getting up one morning and having a flash of inspiration. It might just be other events in their lives that prompt a desire, as in relationship changes around you or other personal duties.

For those already considering that career switch, going out by yourself is probably going to be something you may think about. Considering going the self-employed route is often very appealing, filled with self-sufficiency and also autonomy to control your own time and income. Certainly its not for everyone and many could promptly throw out the idea and prefer to just switch to a new employer.

If you do end up giving a little more serious thought to self employment, franchising can help give a little more than simply flying completely solo. A franchise business is, at its most basic, a small business idea that has been tried and tested, its core elements of accomplishment identified, documented after which it is consolidated in a form that could be replicated. As a result, by taking on a franchise system business you currently know one point: this business idea has been done before, it can be profitable and I'll be trained and educated on how to run the franchise business to the initial system.

Franchising boasts a great success rate with around ninety percent of franchise businesses reporting that they are running profitably each year reported by the yearly BFA/Natwest franchise surveys.

There are actually hundreds of franchised business concepts with everything from hairdressing, to retail, to health, to business consultancy, to automotive. If you think of a type of job you should be pretty sure there exists currently a franchise concept which you might be trading in that industry.

As a way to begin your investigation, it is useful to consider looking at some franchise directory sites, buying a franchise publication or going along to a franchise show. These will all assist you to draw together the data you require to learn what business opportunities are available for you.

So, in case you are trapped in career depression, perhaps now is time to think about a new outlook with a franchise system business.

Re: VALUE = ROI / Price (Cost) or Opportunty Spent Re: VALUE = ROI / Price (Cost) or Opportunty Spent -
OK, but what many people do not realize is.... just because the "free offer" is relevant, or we didn't pay money for the message, it still costs our opportunity to be just paying attention to it. Here is a scenario, I get a phone call from a stranger who knows nothing about me. Without asking me for a permission, just because their FREE message is relevant to what I do, they assume they're doing me a favor by approaching me with their promotion.[/quote:ra8u6vda] Hi Takuya, While I understand your position, I think you're straying off topic from what Andy and I interpret as "giving value first" and asking for nothing in return. If you try to help a potential client by simply offering your related service or products for free, then that's self-serving because you're trying to make the sale. And no one likes cold callers. A good example of offering value first would be: -I want to connect with Business Author ABC. -The next step would be to find out how I could help (and NOT by trying to sell my product or service). -Let's say I learn that this author wants publicity for his/her new book, so I introduce Business Author ABC to an influential person in the book/publishing industry like Oprah and ask for nothing in return. -Then Business Author ABC would want to connect with me and want to learn what I do for a living. -And in the future, Business Author ABC would want to help me in the future if need be. It's as easy as that.
canada resources canada resources - I used to have a connection to a franchise consultant in Canada at "Franchise Officer" in Toronto. I wish I could remember his name ( but I can check my files at the office tomorrow). Anyway, he had a lot of connections to banks in Canada. He may know of them and may be able to offer some feedback. If you are looking for a business loan, Canada has similar business loan programs to that of the USA's Small Business Administration (SBA). I think its SLBS in Cananda, and I probably have the list of it's lenders in my office also. Do you think either can be helpful? If so, I can get back to you with this information tomorrow. Let me know!

Re: Info for would be franchisers... Re: Info for would be franchisers... -
Like Franchise Times, Franchise Update is a very practical magazine. There is no blah blah, just straight facts that anyone in the franchise community can relate to. I just want to mention that all these magazines are NOT franchisee oriented. I mean these magazines are for franchise professionals. If you're looking to buy a franchise, you won't find much information in there. To answer your question, getting published in Franchise Times was fairly easy. I don't want to brag too much but I think I am known in the franchise industry. I was the marketing guy at Franchise.com for a few years before joining my new company, the World Franchising Network. So people know me and I have a very good relationship with Nancy Weingartner, the Managing Editor at Franchise Times. I was talking with her at the last Franchise Expo South in Miami and she mentioned she'd like me to be profiled. I was like "ok, sure!". I like this franchise executive profile thing in Franchise Times as it is rarely BS. People are usually really natural in there.[/quote:1d29sdv1] Thanks for the follow up Sebastien! And I can't say that I'm surprised that networking with the right people and managing your relationships with them properly are the keys to being published. I guess the old adage holds true of "it's not who you know, but who knows you" that's important.
how much for a franchise fee? how much for a franchise fee? - Dear Colleague There is no easy answer to this question. Things to consider:
The sizeof the Franchise Clent base Expected Turnover Intellectual Property costs (recoup) Number of Franchises Number of employees Original Set up costs Franchise admin costs An example: A franchise that I was involved in setting was to a simple "lawn mowing/home repair" franchise. The Franchise included national/local advertising - preparation of client lists - general admin - central accounting etc The Franchise involved 300-500 clients - and an annual turnover of about $300,000 . The annual franchise fee was $30,000. Hope that this gives you some idea Take care Ian
