Franchise system empowerment to social enterprise

Business format franchising

One of the best ways to increase the scale of successful social enterprise could be via the business format franchise model in my opinion. Not only for successful UK social enterprise companies but also for micro enterprises in emerging economies.

Document proven best practise

By documenting proven best practise and the selection suitable franchisees, who will follow the proven system, the franchise business model is able to empower and increase social enterprise benefits across many communities.

Cut out the learning curve

Another benefit to franchising in social enterprise is that the mistakes made in building new busiensses do not need to be learned and experienced again and again. How much time and effort could be saved by social entrepreneurs documenting successful business practise and making this available for franchise replication?

Improve aid organisation exits from disaster situations

NGO's, such as Christian Aid, could benefit greatly. The traditional roll of most NGO organisations is disaster relief. The NGO's exit from a disaster situation can often create a new crisis because of the lack of enterprise and jobs. A database of open source micro enterprise best practise information and training materials could help NGO's to access and and implement social enterprise before exiting a community.

Re: Franchising? Why pay franchise fees? Re: Franchising? Why pay franchise fees? - I have found that most true entrepreneurs will never buy a franchise because they don't see the value of the franchise system. Bill Gates would probably never buy a franchise right? He created the system, he doesn't want to follow a system. A Franchise is a system. Bottom line is the bottom line. If you can't see where the name, system, training, support, products, & services will make you more money than opening your own business then open your own. It is a known fact that 90% of all small businesses close within 2 years. It is also a known fact that over 90% of all franchises are still open after 2 years. So franchising may not be right for everyone, but someone must be doing something right to have one open every 8 minutes in the US.

Re: Info for would be franchisers... Re: Info for would be franchisers... -
Like Franchise Times, Franchise Update is a very practical magazine. There is no blah blah, just straight facts that anyone in the franchise community can relate to. I just want to mention that all these magazines are NOT franchisee oriented. I mean these magazines are for franchise professionals. If you're looking to buy a franchise, you won't find much information in there. To answer your question, getting published in Franchise Times was fairly easy. I don't want to brag too much but I think I am known in the franchise industry. I was the marketing guy at Franchise.com for a few years before joining my new company, the World Franchising Network. So people know me and I have a very good relationship with Nancy Weingartner, the Managing Editor at Franchise Times. I was talking with her at the last Franchise Expo South in Miami and she mentioned she'd like me to be profiled. I was like "ok, sure!". I like this franchise executive profile thing in Franchise Times as it is rarely BS. People are usually really natural in there.[/quote:1d29sdv1] Thanks for the follow up Sebastien! And I can't say that I'm surprised that networking with the right people and managing your relationships with them properly are the keys to being published. I guess the old adage holds true of "it's not who you know, but who knows you" that's important.
how much for a franchise fee? how much for a franchise fee? - Dear Colleague There is no easy answer to this question. Things to consider:
The sizeof the Franchise Clent base Expected Turnover Intellectual Property costs (recoup) Number of Franchises Number of employees Original Set up costs Franchise admin costs An example: A franchise that I was involved in setting was to a simple "lawn mowing/home repair" franchise. The Franchise included national/local advertising - preparation of client lists - general admin - central accounting etc The Franchise involved 300-500 clients - and an annual turnover of about $300,000 . The annual franchise fee was $30,000. Hope that this gives you some idea Take care Ian
Re: Twitter Woes.... Whats slowing you down? Re: Twitter Woes.... Whats slowing you down? - Hi Dallas -- nice to meet you, fellow moderator! The biggest thing slowing me down on Twitter is establishing a system that lets me "work" my social networking (interacting with folks, finding new and interesting folks to follow) daily, but without it interrupting the flow of my day. In other words, a system that I can tap into when it is natural for me to do so in my day, rather than being interrupt-driven via email alerts, etc.
