Using The Web To Explore Franchise Businesses

The world wide web has developed our capacity to research subjects of preference and obtain information swiftly and much more effectively than ever in the past. Historically, researching a potential business opening used to be a meticulous exercise made of reading of hard copy media and magazines, newspapers, getting hold of brochures, attending franchise exhibitions and alot of time spent with your ear stuck on the telephone!

In the Internet age, a whole lot of this information is now accessible on the web and can be examined and considered in some number of various ways.

Franchise opportunity Directories

For instance, visiting an internet franchise business directory should offer you a range of tools to filter and look at the franchise offerings by your preferred trade type, available capital and chosen trading location. This may save you a lot of time seeing as straight away you already have reduced your list of potentials to those that you can come up with the money for, are available within your locality and are also of the sector you might have a preference to work in.

A number of those same franchise directories may also permit you to simply forward a contact request straight to the franchise operator, that can save time in seeking out and contacting each franchisor in turn.

Use the Internet to find out more about the Franchise Company

Certainly you are able to also call on the franchisors individual websites to find more exhaustive details about their business and their franchise opportunities.

After you've made a select list, you are able to once more use the web to visit a website like Companies House where you'll be able to look for the franchise businesses of appeal and acquire an idea of their history, including the Directors of the businesses and other business ventures they might be a part of and, in some cases, some financial business information on how the businesses have performed well.

Read Comments, Share Concerns, Raise Questions

An added advantage of the internet is its capacity in promoting free speech. You may wish to look for the franchise business brand on the web or on social networks such as Facebook or Twitter and see if you can unearth any discussions which have mentioned the franchise. You might be able to hear about others that have taken up the franchise opportunity and whether or not they have had a solid or negative encounter. You might acquire alot of understanding from other folks that have previously taken up or are considering the franchise you yourself are considering. It’s important to note at this point that individuals are far more likely to make known bad experiences than positive hence just consider this in mind whilst considering the ratio of excellent opposed to bad observations (When was the last time you went back to a shop to inform them how happy you were with reference to an item you purchased? But how swiftly will you go back to a shop if its not meeting your expectations?).

You might want to connect with a franchise business discussion forum or pose an issue yourself in your favourite social network to determine what opinions that other people might have to share with you.

In general, the internet can potentially speed up the preliminary examination stages of looking for a franchise. When you have a select list which has been considered well and you are pleased with, you can then get the telephone and set up a meeting safe in the safety that you already know as much as you’re able about a franchise owner before you even step into their office.

Re: Info for would be franchisers... Re: Info for would be franchisers... -
Like Franchise Times, Franchise Update is a very practical magazine. There is no blah blah, just straight facts that anyone in the franchise community can relate to. I just want to mention that all these magazines are NOT franchisee oriented. I mean these magazines are for franchise professionals. If you're looking to buy a franchise, you won't find much information in there. To answer your question, getting published in Franchise Times was fairly easy. I don't want to brag too much but I think I am known in the franchise industry. I was the marketing guy at Franchise.com for a few years before joining my new company, the World Franchising Network. So people know me and I have a very good relationship with Nancy Weingartner, the Managing Editor at Franchise Times. I was talking with her at the last Franchise Expo South in Miami and she mentioned she'd like me to be profiled. I was like "ok, sure!". I like this franchise executive profile thing in Franchise Times as it is rarely BS. People are usually really natural in there.[/quote:1d29sdv1] Thanks for the follow up Sebastien! And I can't say that I'm surprised that networking with the right people and managing your relationships with them properly are the keys to being published. I guess the old adage holds true of "it's not who you know, but who knows you" that's important.
how much for a franchise fee? how much for a franchise fee? - Dear Colleague There is no easy answer to this question. Things to consider:
The sizeof the Franchise Clent base Expected Turnover Intellectual Property costs (recoup) Number of Franchises Number of employees Original Set up costs Franchise admin costs An example: A franchise that I was involved in setting was to a simple "lawn mowing/home repair" franchise. The Franchise included national/local advertising - preparation of client lists - general admin - central accounting etc The Franchise involved 300-500 clients - and an annual turnover of about $300,000 . The annual franchise fee was $30,000. Hope that this gives you some idea Take care Ian
Re: Franchise Surveys Re: Franchise Surveys - Another good tool to researching a franchise is to speak with their existing franchisees. This contact information is included in most Franchise Disclosure Documents. In order to get a Franchise Disclosure Document or FDD as it is often referred to, you will have to complete a basic franchise application. The franchisor will then usually provide you with the FDD at that time. Included in that book of information is a list of the existing franchisees, the contract, the investment information etc... This information is required by Federal Law to be disclosed to your prior to making a purchase. So be sure to do your research and start with the Franchise Documents to get the initial information.

We lead busy lives and when people fill their magazines with fluff, not only does it benefit no one, but it makes us truly appreciate those that don't. Thanks!
