Non-Traditional Sites For Franchises
Many franchisors are looking into non-traditional locations
as a way to increase franchise sales and royalty streams.
According to a report from market research firm Technomic,
food service sales in 2010 were projected to rise at colleges and universities,
senior living centers, supermarkets, primary and secondary schools, and
military bases; remain flat at limited service restaurants, convenience stores,
hospitals and long-term care facilities; and continue to decline at
full-service restaurants.*
Non-traditional sites are often described as those with a
captive market, and where the franchise is not a destination – in other words,
not a street side location or what we’ve always considered “main street” site.
Many franchisors are seeking to sell their brand within
established shops. In these scenarios,
the franchisor must be open to sometimes significant changes in the franchise
agreement to accommodate the new dynamic of non-traditional sites.
