The Value of Small Businesses

Why aren’t our politicians, law makers and government leaders acknowledging the value of small businesses in our economy?

Small business is the back bone of our economy and yet government seems to altogether ignore them when it comes to taxes, health care, and available capital (through lending) for expansion, working capital and financing for acquisitions.

From a business broker point of view, more and more business owners decided to sell their businesses to avoid future potential capital gains tax increases proposed by the current administration. On the flip side, increasing numbers of buyers could not proceed to purchase a business (having been out of work for many months with no hope of regaining employment) due to lack of available financing.

Things are tough, money is tight, what a time for collaboration, communication and action by our government leaders to recognize the value of small businesses.

It’s a challenging time for small businesses because of declining sales, increased costs for health care and product costs, fixed expenses, etc. The politicians in Washington DC just don’t get it! They are “clueless” as to what goes on every day in small business – the backbone of our economy.
