How Do I Start A Going Green Business?
The recently coined term, “going green”, has become a well-known household expression in the past few years. Essentially, going green means adapting your lifestyle in an attempt to do as little damage as possible to the environment. Homes have begun going green by doing things like having compost boxes so there is less garbage in the landfills. So, we know the basics behind how an individual goes green, but many companies or entrepreneurs have started to ask themselves: how do I start a going green business? Getting a whole business to go green is a little more difficult and definitely requires more work in order for it to actually be effective. A greener workplace involves everyone in the company, not just an individual effort.
The first thing to consider that most people disregard entirely is the commute to work. Simply driving to work has a huge negative impact on the environment, and it’s generally pretty easy to avoid. There are so many other options including public transit, bicycling, walking, etc. If the trip to work is inaccessible using these alternatives, the second best option is to take a carpool with co-workers, which really helps to cut down air pollution. However, if you must drive, and a carpool is out of the question, at least try to drive a hybrid vehicle.
An obvious way that a business can go green is to cut air pollution like greenhouse gases or carbon emissions in the air. There are other ways to create energy to run your company. Try to use alternative methods of energy like solar or wind power, which will actually save your business some money in the long run. Think about going green in a logical sense. Clearly, a company that dumps harmful waste or chemicals is not one that is trying to help out the environment, and more often than not, they are dumping this waste illegally. It gets into our water system and you don’t want to be drinking these chemicals. If you are in control of your business, you should find out what you are doing wrong, and how you can start the process of going green.
Most people forget about it, but some technology that’s used in the workplace can actually be quite beneficial. For example, by using a computer, you avoid using any paper, and instead can submit work through emails or a fax modem as opposed to a fax machine, which is often a waste of paper. There are so many ways to save paper using technology. Even if you have to carry several documents with you, just bring along a USB key with everything on it that you may need.
This social consciousness not only benefits the environment and it’s effect on you, but it also helps out your business. Many people ask themselves how they can start to buy or get services from businesses that are going green, and try to avoid the companies that are constantly polluting the world. Going green is the new way to get more business, and it will just continue to provide further benefits and more costumers as time passes.
