A good business plan is essential as a first step towards establishing business practices or as a tool go get investors to take a serious look at your business. Often without a business plan already in hand serious investors will not even give you a second glance when you approach them seeking funding. This is just a necessary step to making your business dreams come true. Writing an business plan can be a daunting task but a good first step would be to find an business plan example that suites your needs.

When using someone else's business plan example make sure they have all the basics covered. Every business plan has its main components:

• Executive Summary
• Company Analysis
• Industry Analysis
• Customer Analysis
• Identify the Competition
• Marketing Plan
• Operations Plan
• Management Team
• Financial Plan

These are the key elements to any business, however, after doing some research into writing my own business plan I realized how these all are approached is not a one size fits all proposition.

When trying to find a good business plan example approach it from the point of view of the potential investor or person who will be reading the business plan, such as an employee or manager who will be instituting the plan. Avoid using plans with a lot of "extra" information you will not need. For example if you are involved in a direct distributorship you will not need to have four pages of how your product is manufactured. While it is true that this might be a great selling point, and part of what makes your product unique, several pages of this information would not be germane. Interpreting the example and applying it to your current business is important when looking at an example of a business plan and will save you a lot of headaches. Often examples will come with a heading such as "A Business Plan for (Whatever)", finding these will be much more helpful than trying to use a plan from an entirely different industry. If you don't find what you need right off, keep looking. The extra time spent searching will be more than made up for when you find the right example.

While the form of a business plan is pretty much set into stone as far as what sections are needed, how they are presented and in what order is nearly a personal choice. For example, you could technically reverse the order of when you present marketing plan and the operations plan without much of an issue with your potential reader. Eliminating either could be a problem. How you present any of these sections is up to you. To gain a better perspective on this I recommend that you look over several different examples of business plans and take the styles from each that you are most comfortable with. Mixing it up a little and making things more your own is a very good thing. You are attempting to establish a relationship with your reader, be they an investor or employee, so keeping things your own is important.

The Big Book of Small Business: You Don't Have to Run Your Business by the Seat of Your Pants, by Tom Gegax. Ditto. 3. PADI: The Business of Diving Book Okay, so this book won't be of use to anyone who doesn't want to start a scuba store, but I did, and this book was of course invaluable to me in reaching that goal.
Re: Is A Business Plan A Waste Of Time? - Business Plan or generally work plan (to do list) improves the quality of my work at least 4 times. I have seen the positive results of planning and focus in my online business. And I know from my past experience how uneficient your business can be when you are not doing planning. So I agree that there is a relationship between entrepreneur success and planning.
