One of the obvious sectors is to help customers cut energy costs. This could be through your own existing business or as a new one. Concentrating on renewable energy alternatives for your clients in the form of things such as solar panel installation, solar heated water and installation of more energy efficient appliances is a good starting point. In addition to being green, these will save your clients more money in the long run than the traditional alternatives. This is a great selling point for you as well.

Marketing eco-friendly products is another great idea. Though it could be said to be related to the last paragraph, it’s not when you take into consideration that we could be talking about cleaning products or other consumables. Green consumables is a huge market and there is a lot of pie to go around in this area right now. Think it over and you might not be able to name three cleaning products or household chemicals that are biodegradable.

Help others stay green. Another great idea for those with a green thumb would be to start and maintain a gardening service for urban and suburban people. Most of these folks would love to live green and enjoy fresh veggies and benefit their diets as well as the environment, but lack the time. Something like this in conjunction with say, a cleaning service might just take off. Services along those lines should be thought through, but the opportunities to do things like a rooftop gardening service, are out there and becoming more available all the time.

Online stores with a green theme are another great marketing tool. Too often people looking for the simplest green product are left to surf the internet to find it. This is great as internet businesses are easy to start and require less start-up than a physical storefront. Specializing in one aspect of green products will help you to drive more traffic through your site.

There are literally hundreds of thousands of ways to start your own business based on bettering the environment. Green business ideas are becoming more and more what the small business owner is brainstorming about. Making your own green business work or making your current business more green oriented is a simple matter of adjusting your thinking, finding a niche and going for it.

Re: Are you a Blue, Red, or Green? - Hum... a lot of reds responding... Business owners must be a very aggressive community. Now, I was surprised when I took the course personally to find out I was a Green, secondary Blue. Of course, not believing this, the first thing I did was turn to those around me to get their opinions on my colours (typical Green!). The only thing I can really say about STRUCTOGRAM is that it was fun to explore the depths of my social and physiological make-up... I did this a over a year ago now and still use it in my daily interactions (always be on your toes with Reds).

Re: 10 ideas to make you money in 2010 - I think Education would be hard to break into. Baby Boomers, Life Support and Trading Down, however, seem like good markets. As for Green technology goes, I don't think the business has to be entirely based on Green ideologies, but rather a business that embrace Green philosophies and use that as a marketing tool.

The Big Book of Small Business: You Don't Have to Run Your Business by the Seat of Your Pants, by Tom Gegax. Ditto. 3. PADI: The Business of Diving Book Okay, so this book won't be of use to anyone who doesn't want to start a scuba store, but I did, and this book was of course invaluable to me in reaching that goal.
