Lead Generation

Guest post by: Zeeman Haus

Article Overview: From a marketing standpoint a good lead generation process can help a business better refine their demographic and enable them to better their marketing and sales strategy. Oddly enough there's a concept known as the rendezvous dilemma in which there are two parties- meaning the business and the prospective customer, seeking each other, but just can't seem to find one another. For instance, a customer in one region might be looking for a better product than the one they are able to get locally. A product or service might be exactly what the prospect is looking for, but because the business does not do any advertising in that specific area or have a marketing and distribution plan in place there, the customers are unaware of the product.

Lead Generation

From a marketing standpoint a good lead generation process can help a business better refine their demographic and enable them to better their marketing and sales strategy. Oddly enough there's a concept known as the rendezvous dilemma; in which there are two parties- meaning the business and the prospective customer, seeking each other, but just can't seem to find one another. For instance, a customer in one region might be looking for a better product than the one they are able to get locally. A product or service might be exactly what the prospect is looking for, but because the business does not do any advertising in that specific area or have a marketing and distribution plan in place there, the customers are unaware of the product. This is no good for the product provider because they need to generate some business volume. And it's no good for the prospective customer because they need to feel satisfied with how and where they have spent their money. One of the objectives of lead generation is to help the two of them find each other more effectively. The customer can spend their money and feel profoundly rewarded and the business can take their new found customers' money and feel a little fuzzy inside. This is great when you consider it can provide a more productive marketing strategy than blindly throwing a dart as a map and saying "let's start here!"

Online lead generation is a slightly broader term. With the proliferation of online marketing and sales and the amount of people shopping online, finding a niche or specific market can be tough. Just the sheer size of the internet makes the rendezvous dilemma more of a factor in sales and marketing. You can put your darts back though, there are some marketing strategies on the internet, and as a result some business opportunities as well.

In the past, large firms with literally row after row ofassociates on the phoneand a small army of mail personnel would have to be employed to gather all the information needed for a solid lead generation. Now on the internet, clever individuals from everyday life can do the same thing from the convenience of their home computer. Small business has found a playing field that is a little more even than it has been in the past. There are basically three types on online lead generation:

CPM (Cost-per-Thousand) charge by the number of times people view an advertisement. This could be something as simple as a logo or traditional advertising sign like you would see in the local newspaper. For the advertiser the big problem is whether or not their message was received and if it was, how was it received. Because this is done as a "by the view only" type of advertising approach based on the number of viewers to the site and not by clicks or interaction with the prospective customer, it is paid for in volume. The fundamental problem though is being able to gauge how effective the ad campaign is as there no way of knowing if the customer has seen the advert.

CPC (Cost-per-Click) advertising will show a direct correlation between the advertising dollar and customer interest. CPC charges advertisers only when the consumer clicks on the advertisement. There has been an increase in competition in this market with the result being prices rising for the advertiser, which is great for the provider.

CPL (Cost-per-Lead) advertising solves the problem of the risk of CPM and the expense of CPC by charging only by the lead. Like CPC though the price can be effected by demand.

Both CPL and CPC methods are prone to fraud however, with some unscrupulous providers generating leads by blending in leads from other sources or combining them or even generating clicks. Like any other business though there will always be risk involved.

On the whole lead generation on the internet is good for small business, and a great way to start a business with low start up cost. This is one of those few propositions that when done right, leaves everyone feeling a little fuzzy inside.

Re: Traditonal Demographics Do NOT Work with Generation V Re: Traditonal Demographics Do NOT Work with Generation V - That article is the first time I ever heard the term. I found this definition - [i:189o61sy]The term Generation V (for Virtual) is used to describe the online culture in which relationships, services and communication are carried primarily and preferably through electronic media. Generation Virtual is made up of people from multiple demographic age groups who make their social connections primarily online - through virtual worlds in online games, in social networks, as bloggers, or through posting and reading user-generated content.[/i:189o61sy] I like the targeting options the internet offers much better than the typical demographics. Age is particular is not nearly as effective in finding a target market unless you want to target kids. Too many of the typical demographics rely on stereotypes and just seems outdated for many types of promotion. That's one of the reasons this article title caught my eye. Shri
