IBM and IBM compatibles has taken a huge market share as far as the personal computer goes, however Mac desktops have many selling points. For versatility, ruggedness and affordability there are many Mac desktop sellers. Before the IBM people scoff at my proposal, here is a small list of what has sold me on Mac desktops.

Flexibity is one of the main selling points for Mac. They are compatible with most Windows and Linux applications. This triples your ability to purchase the custom software you need or comparative shop for software that may meet your needs. Considering Mac arguably has some of the best audio, video and graphics software on the market already, this is a big plus. Add in the excellent accounting, billing and project software put forth for Windows and the application software that Linux offers and you have a winning combination all in one box.

Apple has a thing about design. IN the movie Zoolander, Owen Wilson throws a Mac desktop two stories onto a concrete floor to break it open and "find the files inside". You nearly have to do just that to break open a Mac. They are built for survivability. In a recent article published on the internet about Mac servers, the writer commented on the design noting that the chassis was designed first and everything else around it. This is the complete opposite of how most computers are designed. Mac does this on purpose with the intent of making a product that will withstand some shock.

As far as affordability goes, Mac is slightly higher in price than a comparable PC. When you take into account that most small business owners have to do their own IT work though, the hours not spent working on making your computer operate properly is a bonus. Mac computers do seem to hold their value longer than IBM compatibles and do not have to be upgraded very often. Steve Jobs' people seem to know what they are doing and understand the small business person's need for compatibility, reliability and durability.

Mac desktop sellers on the internet and in the showroom floor are working hard to market their wares now. With the economy being a volatile as it has been, Mac sales dipped recently but the company is on a comeback trend now. The next generation of Mac desktops promises to be more inexpensive and powerful than the previous generations and this is helping move boxes out of the doors.

With some new improvements in design and functionality that takes their versatility even further beyond PCs, Mac is poised to increase sales and finally give the IBM compatible manufacturers a run for their money. One thing is for sure though, Apple is not going anywhere. They are firmly entrenched and the Mac owner is incredibly, nearly militantly loyal to the brand. There is definitely a reason for that and given an opportunity, it is not a hard sell to convince anyone to the benefits of owning a Mac desktop.

Frumpy or sleek? The wrong face drives away customers Frumpy or sleek? The wrong face drives away customers - I've got a Discovery News Feed on my Google Desktop, and every morning I usually click on one or two headlines. The first time I do this, I'm always brought to a "splash page" or "ad page" or whatever it's called, in which a frumpy woman (middle aged, bad hair cut - or just on a bad hair day, pinny over her dress, clutching a few papers and smiling) is juxtaposed over some ad about the dangers of high cholesterol and what to do about it. Now, I am a feminist, and I see no reason why middle aged women should have to primp and preen and watch their weight (any more than younger women should) and that these women can advertise anything just as well as anybody else...but the fact remains that I pay no attention to this ad because this "face" simply doesn't inspire confidence as someone who would know anything about cholesterol. It's "just" a housewife. Put the same woman - same expression and everything - in a white lab coat and I might pay more attention to her. Have this woman as she now is trying to sell chocolate cake or something like that, and I'd pay attention to her. But as it is, the image doesn't inspire confidence in the message.
