Managing a Coaching Business Abroad

Time and how to best use it is always a consideration for most entrepreneurs. When your business forces you to work abroad there are considerations, when managing a coaching business abroad, there are even more. Your time is your commodity and in order to instill value in your product, you will have to make sure that you are organized, multitasked and the time you spend on task is quality time.

Most people who begin a business coaching abroad, be these motivational speakers, sales coaches or even business consultants, have visions of travelling to overseas destinations and relaxing on the beach in between their duties. For the most part they are only half right; they will be doing a lot of flying. Managing your time will allow a little more of it for you and ultimately make you a better coach, so here are a couple of small tips to help you do so a little more efficiently and gain value in the eyes of your customers.

Phone conferences and leveraged time are at the forefront of requirements to make this type of business work for anyone. Too many people attempt to do this on the fly and work from memory or off the cuff. When you are a one person show this makes managing your coaching business abroad seem as if it could be done from the hip; for most it cannot. Managing more than one individual in your international coaching business like this is just asking for confusion.

I have said it before and I will say it again and again; when acting in the capacity of a coach, your credibility is your most important tool. Without credibility in the eyes of your client or the people you are coaching, you will accomplish nothing. Consolidating your time and becoming more streamlined one of the tools that will enable you to do just that. By showing you are efficient off the bat, you establish right away that you know what you are doing and you have the best interest of the party being coached at heart.

When taking a trip, pre-call before you even leave for your next destination. This shows your concern and allows you to touch base before you are out of contact while travelling. Try to schedule this pre-call in such a way that you can touch on the coaching situation and have some time to prepare while in transit. This will also allow you to shorten your initial meeting somewhat, saving a bit of time. Having a standardized checklist and taking notes on the phone is always a good idea. You coach for a living while your client does not. While you might coach several businesses all at once, they deal with you and you alone in that aspect; they would have the advantage of memory on conversations. By keeping detailed notes to refer back to, you have a definite tool to enable you to "brush up" on the way to the meeting. Forgetting a fact about your client or worse, confusing one client with another will damage your credibility.

Finding and hiring an interpreter is a great idea if you are going to be coaching in a country that doesn't speak your native tongue. Often when asked a company will provide you with an interpreter from their office pool, but by arriving with your own, you heighten the customer's perception of value and gain more credibility. This will also allow you to work with someone you have spoken with before and gain a repartee with them before you make your meeting.

Managing a coaching business abroad is definitely a challenge and an adventure. Keeping organized and professional- the best way to manage your coaching business abroad is give the impression that you are giving each client the value and custom service that they are looking for. Doing so will grow your business and heighten your reputation.

Exclusive: Interview with Results Exclusive: Interview with Results - Hi Forum Members, I'm helping start up a Business Coaching and Consulting company here in Toronto, Ontario, Canada (a Subsidiary of RSC Business in Los Angeles). As a Research and Development Intern I am required to practice my listening and interview skills by surveying Small and Medium Businesses on thier Business. This Survey is designed by RSC Business to also assist the Business being interviewed more insight into their own business. I am looking to interview about 30 businesses across North America over the span of 3 months. At the end of these interviews I will be publishing a report of the results and they will be made available for free to the Interviewees. The Report data will include responses from a minimum of 100 interviews. I would like to extend this opportunity to members of the Forum. If you would like to have this short 20-30 minute interview conducted on your Business and you reside in North America please send me an email or PM. Please contact me at andy[at]jvprosperity[dot]com to arrange our interview and to get free access to the results when they are published.
Business Coaching Internship Review Business Coaching Internship Review - I joined in during the first phase of the internship and at this point we are committed to doing research and development of RSC Business Group operating in Toronto. RSC Business Group already has products and services in Coaching Small businesses in Los Angeles but we didn't want to assume that the same products were wanted and needed in the Toronto market. Our goal at this point is to commit to interviewing 1000 business owners to capture this data. Through the teleconference internship I've been involved in we've been focusing on Communication Skills and on active listening which are practiced when we conduct our interviews and Coach our clients when they come on board. This is a lot harder than it sounds! Part of the internship is also creating the Toronto RSC Business Group's departments, job descriptions, Marketing and Communication plans etc that a business owner would create for their own company. This trains us in the way we would coach a company as well. The internship is phased in two parts and there is compensation plan involved as well for the clients you personally bring in. These clients are coached directly by Robert Chun as you begin but you are given a chance to learn his techniques. I haven't gone through this experience yet though. It's hard to explain Robert Chun's method of Coaching as it happens at a psychological level in his ability to listen and question the person being coached into the next steps they need to take. The Teleconferences are 2 hours long but it's very interactive. If you have a desire to explore this area of Business I'd recommend contacting Vwodek listed above and get invited to a Coaching Conference call. You can decided then if it's for you. Note: it is a commitment but the skills you walk away with whether you plan on working with RSC Business Group or not is invaluable.
