Oprah Winfrey Facts

Well, there was that one time and the guy got elected President.... . She is more than a talk show host though. Oprah has chops, meaning she might be one of the cleverest individuals of our time. How else could a child born in Mississippi and passed around a family become, literally the most powerful woman in the country?

Ah Oprah, she is a living breathing legend. Political candidates would kill to win her endorsement. Does she ever give it? Nope. Well, there was that one time and the guy got elected President.... . She is more than a talk show host though. Oprah has chops, meaning she might be one of the cleverest individuals of our time. How else could a child born in Mississippi and passed around a family become, literally the most powerful woman in the country?

I'm not a huge Oprah fan in all honesty. Partially it's just out and out jealousy, but also I think it's a format issue, I am not a talk show fan; I'm just not. But when you look at everything she has accomplished, how much fun she appears to have always had and the incredible amount of change she has affected, it's easy to just say "Okay fine, I like you Oprah." And you know something? I do. While not a fan of her show, I am an admirer of Ms. O and here's why:

When she began her career on TV her style was a "come on along" style that appealed to women. In short she kind of became everywoman's best girlfriend. The average woman who watched Oprah in the beginning knew she was there for them and watching out for them. Oprah never fell for or went into the "shock reality" that her contemporaries were trying out. When Jenny had on "Gay Drunken Circus Clowns", Oprah was promoting awareness of real issues. When Sally Jesse was interviewing prostitutes while dressed as a prostitute, Oprah was introducing the world to Dr. Phil and helping people on an emotional level. There was a contrast there that her competition never understood. While they were pandering and looking to ratings, Oprah was looking into the eyes, hearts and minds of her viewers. This not only made her a great talk show host, but a human being. Soon she was everyone's best friend.

She started a school for underprivileged girls in S. Africa. She appealed to the American public to help her and they responded. Please note I said "to help her", I really feel she would have just done it anyway, but this is no Henny Penny story, the public did their part as well. She moves people in ways that no other television personality ever could.

She has more money than Kellogg's has cornflakes and she uses it. Did you know she gives $100,000 a week to a local hero, someone who has already done a good deed to helping others? These people didn't ask for her help, but she gave it because she felt like she should. She feels like she has a moral responsibility to help these people. As busy as she is, I'm guessing she has at least one person, if not a small staff doing round the clock research to find people or organizations to help.

She uses her connections and star power to enlist other celebrities to her causes. She uses her own corporate strength as a catalyst for change and is rewarded for it. People know that Oprah is out to help the world. Making that statement in relation to anyone else would be sarcasm, when referring to Oprah it is fact. Her return in monetary compensation is probably on the hefty side when you consider how much even a small percentage of her $2.7 billion dollars would amount to. Really, once you have made your first $1.5 billion, what else is there to do except hang out naked in a motel room eating Cheetos or help others? Literally hundreds of thousands of people, if not millions, worldwide are glad she opted for the latter.

I titled this piece "Oprah Winfrey Facts" and maybe people will read it and feel cheated that they still don't know what she eats for breakfast, when she had her first kiss or tons of other information. For those of you who did, I apologize and I am sure those answers are available to you. I suppose I just needed to sound off, and in my own long winded way say, I am not an Oprah (the show) fan, but I am a huge fan of Oprah Winfrey as a human being.

Creating a facebook application - Will do Barbara - The famous entrepreneur quotes we think would be a good Facebook application but we soon realized that we could probably get more leverage from it using it off of our site than only on Facebook so we're developing it for our site first and then seeing how complicated it is to move to Facebook. Our first entrepreneur will be Oprah Winfrey - we're still in beta right now but I will let you know when it's fully ready to go!
Oprah - Just an FYI - Suze Orman met Oprah years ago when she became one of Oprah's dream team of consultants. Just like Dr. Phil, Suze became a big hit after Oprah promoted her books and expertise. I doubt Oprah gets paid endorsement dollars per say but I do know that her production company has equity positions in a variety of programs and experts. I will look back through my files for more specific information. I recall a past Oprah staffer who know consults with people on how to get on Oprah. I'll pass it along! Good luck Shri. I think you can write a letter, or contact a series of the big names in order to get endorsements. you have to be professional, but persistent! It is said that Jack Canfield gets over 500 such requests each week. Cheers Jude
