You, all employees in your business and any customers who enter your premises deserve an environment that is not only clean but also safe from environmental pollutants. With the new interest in green, this type of business environment is becoming a reality.
Green commercial cleaning services are beginning to show up in many places. These services use non-toxic cleaning products and equipment. Because they are commercial cleaning services, their success depends on using products that are effective in cleaning so they have found the “green clean” that actually works.
The first commercial cleaning company in the US to have their corporate office building get the LEED-EB (existing building) Gold Certification is Porter Industries in Loveland, Colorado. Their environmental awareness was obvious so I was fascinated to learn about green cleaning from them.
A good green cleaning company is interested in protecting their employees, customers and the environment while they are providing an excellent cleaning service. Porter, for example is not only careful about the products they use, they are always looking for other factors that affect the environment and their service. They determined that traditional vacuums may actually increased the indoor air pollutants so they switched to backpack vacuums with a special filtration system. If you are hiring a service, ask them for details about what they are doing to protect the internal environment at your business and the health of everyone in it.
If you are doing your own cleaning, here are a few tips.
o From Steve Hendrickson at Porter, I learned that many of the well-known disinfectant cleaning products have a pesticide in them. These are perhaps not something you want to clean your counter tops with. Read your labels carefully.
o Steve also said one of the best cleaners is an accelerated hydrogen peroxide product that can be used for multiple purposes. This is a specially formulated product they use, not just the hydrogen peroxide from the drug store.
o For dusting, use something like a microfiber cloth that does not just stir the dust into the air, but actually picks it up and holds it.
If you are interested in learning more or even buying these products directly, you can contact Steve Hendrickson of Porter Industries at 970-667-5239 Ext. 204.
So, you might see how green cleaning gives you healthier employees and possibly even customers that come into your business, but what about directly affecting your bottom line?
If a customer or client comes into your business and it does not look clean, they are less likely to come back. If your business looks clean and they like what you are selling, then knowing that what they can’t see is also healthy can be the tipping point for a sale.
If you are practicing “green cleaning” let everyone know. Not only is it healthier, it can also affect your bottom line.
