1. Clear away clutter
Clean out your wardrobe, the spare room, the 3rd drawer in the kitchen (or whichever one is full of pens/sticky tape/batteries and … goodness knows what!). Depending on what sort of collector or hoarder you may be it could be wise to begin this task with a shelf, not a whole wardrobe. Tackle a small drawer, not a whole room.
After you have completed the cleansing, notice more clarity in your thinking, even your relationships, and all the other aspects of your life. It’s as if you’ve given yourself a little lift and can see things more clearly. You really will free yourself from the stifling effects of stagnant energy in your home and your energy levels can thrive once more.
2. Let in the sun and some fresh air
You know that feeling… when you are lying with your eyes closed on the beach or in a park…and you feel the heat of the warm sun on your face…
Well let it into your home. Open the doors and windows and clear some of the cobwebs away. It’s very easy to keep the windows closed during long periods especially in winter and the air can get stale.
Maybe it’s time for a well positioned skylight. Remember it needs to work well in summer and winter!
3. Choose mood-enhancing colors
What do you need in your life at the moment? Some quiet time, or an energy boost. Choose some colours that give you a lift or add the spark you’re after. If you have the energy then paint a feature wall. Otherwise buy something as simple as a vase, a bowl or some flowers and put them on a shelf to bring in new and positive energy. See which colour is going to do the best for you right now:
Red
The most emotionally intense color, red can stimulate a faster heartbeat and breathing. It is also the color of love. When decorating, red is usually used as an accent colour. For excitement or a statement, red furniture will be great to attract attention.
A shade lower than red is pink. The most romantic color, pink, is more calming. In the past sports teams have painted the locker rooms used by visiting teams bright pink in the hope that their opponents will lose energy.
Blue
Blue causes the opposite effect to red. Serene and calming, the colour blue has been noted to cause the body to produce calming chemicals, so try it in your bedroom if you want to have a calm haven before sleeping.
Perhaps because of this calming effect, studies have shown that in blue rooms people are more productive.
Green
Green symbolizes nature and is the easiest color on the eye and easiest for us to see. It is a calming, refreshing color. Apparently at some TV stations, the people waiting to appear on TV sit in green rooms to relax.
Dark green is masculine, conservative, and implies wealth. So this may be ideal for a decorating feature in your bachelor pad!
Yellow
Yellow is an attention getter. It is the most difficult color for the eye to take in, so it can be intense if overused. It is said that people lose their tempers more often in yellow rooms, and that babies cry more.
It is also said that yellow enhances concentration, which is why it is used for legal pads. It is also linked with speeding up our metabolism. But I don’t think that means we should be eating lemons!
4. Grow fragrant herbs
Some of our most vivid memories come back to us through smell. A certain aftershave or perfume; different foods; coffee or chocolate. Get some natural aromatic herbs, or bake a cake and give yourself a lift!
5. Fill rooms with soothing or exhilarating sounds
For a better nights sleep, just before bed play some soothing music, especially after an invigorating day. On the other hand if you need a lift let the neighbours know you have a copy of the 1812 overture (or it may be better for neighborhood relationships if you use headphones!).
Play some upbeat music when doing chores or housework to make time go faster.
You know it'll all make yo feel better. Which will you do thi sweekend?
