Improving Indoor Air Quality
Have you ever said, "I need to go outside for some fresh air"? Or, how about the smell of new carpet, fresh paint, or experienced that "new car" smell. These odors are the off-gassing of VOC's, or Volatile Organic Compounds. VOC's come from certain solids and liquids containing chemicals which have adverse affects such as cleaning supplies, building materials, glues and adhesives.
Often times the concentration of VOC's are higher indoors than outdoors...2 to 5 times higher! This is due to lack of ventilation. The best way to reduce the exposure to these harmful chemicals is to follow label instructions carefully. It may be beneficial to install additional exhaust fans, replace the ventilation system or upgrade the Heating & AC System. Often times it's just a matter of bringing in some broad leaf indoor plants to help filter out the toxins.
Some other causes of poor air quality and allergens in the office and ways to reduce the harmful affects:
Leaky Vacuums - change to HEPA filters
Fabric-covered Couches and Chairs - replace with leather or micro fiber
Forced-air Duct System - clean ducts; implement radiant heated floors
Carpet Floors - switch to wood or tile floors
Smoking - provide a place for smokers, outdoors and away from ventilation systems
Your customers will enjoy the experience of your indoor space and your employees will appreciate the care you've shown them. They may even want to stay at work longer.
