The Everyday Life of a Super Work at Home Mom!
The Everyday Life of a Super Work at Home Mom!
So, what is the everyday life of your average super, work at home mom like? To begin with, she is like every other mom: she has to wake up in the morning, and sometimes extra early, depending on her work at home profession. If she is a virtual assistant, she may have to wake up at the crack of dawn to talk to her clients on the other side of the globe. If she is a writer, she may wake up early to get her computer started and to set up her files so that she can start work as soon as time and circumstances permit.
Once the super, work at home mom is out of bed, she starts waking up the kids, from the eager-for-school younger ones to the older ones who still want to sleep in. For the moms who find this hard to do, super mom advises not to nag, but to make waking up more involving, say by showing the kids how important they are to her day, and why they should be up.
She starts making breakfast for them, then, while the kids are eating, starts making lunch for packing up. She bundles the packages for the kids, and, like all super work at home moms who are goddesses of the kitchen, she packs a great lunch for her husband. A big piece of advice: always make sure that a balanced diet goes into that lunch bag. You don’t have to put in icky veggies all the time, but a balance of fruits, vegetables that aren’t soggy and overcooked, and some meat or fish can make for a good meal.
By this time, her husband is out of bed, too, and sometimes, he does help out with the breakfast if the work at home mom has to do some work really early in the morning. The helping dad is no fluke: he’s been asked a hundred times for assistance, and dads, with the proper prodding, really do help out. The secret to asking dad for help? Telling him how important it is for him to be involved, and showing him how appreciative super mom is of his help. She can pour him his coffee, give him some extra toast, or even a morning back rub in reward.
Dad, however has to run off to work, so with a quick kiss and a hop to the shower, the wife can start doing her early morning errands. She takes the kids to school, and, by being firm and consistent, makes sure that they are in the car without a hitch. Super mom doesn’t lose her temper when she’s mad: she’s firm and speaks firmly and will not quit until her kids obey.
As soon as the kids are at school, it’s time for errands, or some shopping for food. Super mom also advises to have some free time for brunch, say by meeting quickly with friends, right before the work-at-home session starts. Work can either be cleaning first, then duties next; or the other way around. The first works to her advantage better: cleaning the house is a big household obligation, so she enlists the help of the younger, non-school-going children. If it’s summer, all the kids get to help out. Super mom advises letting the kids help out: it gives them the sense of being involved in the household, and it will make it easier for them to help super mom out later on.
In between writing articles, talking to clients, or making a few arts and crafts for selling, the super work at home mom will fix dinner early, do her laundry, and watch after the much younger children. By the time afternoon comes, she will set all work and duty aside and have an hour to herself. This means being alone: the super work at home mom can choose to take a solitary walk, or she can stay home and do yoga or read a book. Whatever her choice, she is on her own, and no one should disturb her. This is mommy’s personal time to recharge, and it’s important that every mom has this alone time.
When the late afternoon arrives, it’s time to pick the kids up at school. By the time they get home, mom gives them a light nutritious snack and helps them with their homework. While the kids are working on their assignments, she can set the table up and fix dinner, so that dad can eat when he gets home. At dinner, it’s family time, and super mom and her family can have a great meal together. No fighting, super mom insists firmly: dinner is time for bonding and learning from each other.
With dinner done, it’s time for bed, so super mom and dad tuck the kids in. There’s a little more work to be done, so she checks her files one last time before freshening up in time for bed. Then, after a long day spent juggling jobs but still feeling the power of mom, wife, and worker rolled into one, the super mom – yes, the super mom does find time to finally get all-important sleep.
