Staging Diva Calls Home Staging Consultation Reports a Waste of Time

Debra Gould, creator of the Staging Diva Home Staging Business Training Program, says, "If you're sitting down with a stack of photos after a home staging consultation, struggling over the report you're preparing for the homeowners, you are really wasting your time unless you just love doing paperwork, you enjoy knowing you have a lengthy report to complete before moving on to the next client or you're getting paid extra to write it." Gould believes the practice of preparing home staging consultation reports is a waste of time. She states, "That time spent on writing reports is valuable time you should be using to market your business and get more paying clients! Preparing staging consultation reports is one of the many contributing factors to new home stagers going out of business."

Maybe you think you have to prepare these time-consuming reports because everyone else does them but the truth is, not everyone does.

Gould says, "I've staged hundreds of homes over the years and there are thousands of successful Staging Diva Graduates out there who have been closely following my advice and they don't prepare reports either."

The following is a list of several good reasons why preparing home staging consultation reports isn't a good use of a home stager's time:

It's often hours of extra work you're not getting paid for

The client may never actually look at it

If your services are priced properly, you're losing hundreds of dollars with each report you write

Clients don't want to read a great big report. They just want their house staged so it will sell faster for more money.

You're giving yourself something else to fret over

In Course 3 "Taking the Mystery Out of Home Staging Consultations" Staging Diva Students learn to not prepare home staging reports unless all of the above conditions are true and most often they are not.

"Unfortunately," says Gould, "other home staging training companies and a certain "dummies" guide have perpetuated this notion that home staging consultation reports are necessary."

Re: Trade Shows - Are They Worth It? Re: Trade Shows - Are They Worth It? - HI, I have used trade shows (not participated) to collect potential clients. For example, the Home & Garden Industry is extremely behind the time in regards to their websites. I attended an Home & Garden Expo in Denver and collected all the companies contact information. I plan on cold calling & mailing information to each business. It also gave me time to research the industry more, talk directly to the owners in many cases, and learn more about what they need. Jeff
Books that should be written Books that should be written - [quote:1m0dcpd7]"The Idiots Guide To Sticking With One Thing At A Time and Not Doing Something New All The Time" [/quote:1m0dcpd7] I myself am a 'constructive' procrastinator... I don't know if I'm alone in this. I have about six or seven projects I'm working on at any given time. I get one project almost done... then my interest is piqued by another project and I work on that... I get burnt out and move to another...I know I do this so I have it arranged such that once I get bored or burnt out with one project, I can step right back into project 1 - or 2 or 3, and get that a little bit more done before moving on to something else. As long as you're organized and know where all your reference material/idea sheets are when you're ready to get back to work on each project, it should be fine. I also find that by stepping away from a project - I still work on it in the recesses of my mind so that when I go back to it - it's with some good ideas that I wouldn't have had if I'd continued on with it originally. Maybe I should write a book on how to Procrastinate Constructively... I've actually thought about doing that...because most people procrastinate, don't they...and very few are ever able to stop.
