Become an Entrepreneur of Your Own Home Business

Does being an entrepreneur of a home business excite you? Do your ears automatically perk up when someone tells you they work from home in their own business?

Today more and more people are choosing to be entrepreneurs and starting a home business is normally much less risky than a brick and mortar business.

Being an entrepreneur of my own home business, there are some observations I have made that I would like to share with you. There are certain qualities I feel you should possess if you are going to be a successful entrepreneur and not another statistic of a failed business.

• Self-motivation – you will not have a boss giving you work to do. YOU are the boss.
• Willing to take a risk – this is within reason of course. You will have to move forward without knowing all the details of how things will turn out.
• Willing to invest some money – this does not need to be a substantial amount; however, you will need to invest without seeing a profit in the beginning.
• A desire to keep learning – you should keep challenging yourself and learning so you can keep up with the most recent information in your market.
• Integrity – you will not be in business long without it.
• Perseverance – this will not be a smooth ride. There will be times you will feel the business is going great, and there will be times you get discouraged. You have to be able to push through those times and keep going.
• Good communication skills – in many businesses, you will need to communicate in verbal and written form.
• Ability to learn from your mistakes and not let them stop you from moving forward.

These are the characteristics I have found to be crucial in becoming and persisting as an entrepreneur of a home business. These make the difference between someone who just wants to "give it a try" and someone who succeeds at it.

A successful entrepreneur will "take the high road" when it comes to dealing with others. You need to humble yourself and keep your customers/clients happy, but at the same time, display confidence in what you do and your decisions.

Being an entrepreneur is not an easy road, but a worthwhile one. After you have worked diligently at your business, and you make your first sale, it makes it all worth it. You also have the opportunity to improve someone’s life in some way with your product or service. It can be very rewarding.

If you feel you want to take the plunge and start your own home based business, do it. I would recommend finding a mentor who can guide you along the way. It is so helpful to have someone who has gone ahead of you and who can encourage you as you make this life-changing step.

Re: Trade Shows - Are They Worth It? Re: Trade Shows - Are They Worth It? - HI, I have used trade shows (not participated) to collect potential clients. For example, the Home & Garden Industry is extremely behind the time in regards to their websites. I attended an Home & Garden Expo in Denver and collected all the companies contact information. I plan on cold calling & mailing information to each business. It also gave me time to research the industry more, talk directly to the owners in many cases, and learn more about what they need. Jeff
