What is Affiliate Marketing?
To put it in simple terms, affiliate marketing is making a commission by selling someone else’s products. Every time someone buys a product through your affiliate link, you earn money.
This is a great way for someone just starting their business to earn some money without having to carry an inventory of products or without having to create their own products. It can provide you with income that you can reinvest to expand your business.
There are a few things to consider when looking into which affiliate products to promote.
• Make sure the product is relevant to the theme of your business/website. If you are targeting parents of toddlers, you can offer toys, clothes, or books that would be of interest to them. Keep the focus the same.
• Do not use a lot of banners to advertise the product. People tend to ignore these, so you are better off writing up a review of the product and include a text link as your affiliate link.
• Choose only good quality products from a reputable company/site. Remember, people will associate your name with the product if you are promoting it, even if it is not your own product. Protect your reputation by being selective in what you offer.
Normally, there are no requirements to sign up for an affiliate program. You will be asked to fill out some information, but that’s about it. Then you will be given an affiliate link that you can use on your website, on your blog, or in emails you send out. The sign up process is usually pretty easy.
One misconception by people is that they can sign up for an affiliate program, put their link on their site, and not do much else. That won’t work. You have to promote the product aggressively.

When signing up for a program, always look into how you will be paid (paypal or check is common) and if there are any minimums you have to meet before you are paid. Always read what you are agreeing to with the program.
You can also find many private affiliate programs by typing the type of product you want to offer + affiliate program into Google. This way you might be able to find even more relevant programs to your business.

There are pros and cons to Affiliate Marketing, just as there are to any business. As has been suggested, he best policy is to proceed with caution and do some research before jumping in. As Carol has recommended, this topic thread in the EvanCarmichael.com forum is the ideal place to ask questions and seek further input on available Affiliate Marketing programs. If a person is serious about building an online business and is interested in Affiliate Marketing plans, they should approach the process as they would any other form of business. Research, ask questions, compare opportunities, participate in forums on online business and Affiliate Marketing. GT :-]
Re: Affiliate Marketing - Open for Discussion - Hi GT Affiliate Marketing is one of the easier ways to get started making money online, but it does take quite a bit of work before you see any great results as you have to keep promoting constantly. It does teach you one hell of a lot about all aspects of Internet Marketing though as you will need to learn how to write and submit articles, create and maintain a blog, social networking is a great help to affiliates too..the list goes on and on. Re: Affiliate Marketing - Open for Discussion - You made some very good points here Jeff and I agree with you, Affiliate Marketing should not be something that you concentrate all your efforts into. As i said earlier I have learned a lot with Affiliate Marketing and continue to do so, and it has helped me tremendously to understand what I am going to have to do in my chosen niche(s). I am also being coached by the same group of mentors as GT and we are all moving forward daily to achieve our ultimate goals. Take care, Carol

Re: Internet Marketing is the best business in the world - No problem. I am also interested in creating an ebook one day and am glad that I can finally contribute to someone who is, maybe not so up to date in an area that I have some knowlege of. Also I forgot to mention Affiliate Marketing from my previous post. Getting others to sell WhyNot's ebooks for him is a great way of promoting as well.
