Initially these were known as revenue sharing programs. In the early days, most affiliate marketing opportunities were based on selling other people's products.

If you have ever purchased something from Amazon the chances are you bought it on an affiliate site. Amazon has now been around for over 15 years and is credited with being one of the first affiliate opportunities.

If you are looking for ways to earn online this is a great relationship to enter into. Today you can make money not only selling products, but you can also get paid when people click on ads, or by getting leads for advertisers.

As affiliate merchants do not need to hire employees to get the results they want they do very well in this arrangement.. They only have to pay for something that is achieved by the affiliate marketer.

Affiliates do well in this arrangement too because they do not need to pay to join an affiliate program. Everything the affiliate needs to make money is provided for them.

This means that as an affiliate marketer you do not need to develop any of your own products. It is not necessary to have a website to promote online. The merchant will provide you with marketing materials such as banner ads and email ads so you don't need to provide your own.

The most important thing you will do to grow your affiliate marketing business is learn to advertise it online. There are a variety of online marketing strategies, but what will determine whether you succeed or not will be your ability to drive targeted traffic to a website promoting affiliate products.

Some affiliates will promote their affiliate website by purchasing a domain name and redirecting it. Some will actually build their own websites or start a blog and promote affiliate offers on it. Others will choose from the variety of ready made affiliate websites that some online business opportunities provide.

Another popular strategy is to build an email list and sell affiliate products to your subscribers. There is no hard and fast rule to go about this. Whatever you become good at doing is fine.

Building an affiliate marketing business is very exciting and a worthwhile venture to enter into.

There are pros and cons to Affiliate Marketing, just as there are to any business. As has been suggested, he best policy is to proceed with caution and do some research before jumping in. As Carol has recommended, this topic thread in the EvanCarmichael.com forum is the ideal place to ask questions and seek further input on available Affiliate Marketing programs. If a person is serious about building an online business and is interested in Affiliate Marketing plans, they should approach the process as they would any other form of business. Research, ask questions, compare opportunities, participate in forums on online business and Affiliate Marketing. GT :-]
Re: Affiliate Marketing - Open for Discussion - Hi GT Affiliate Marketing is one of the easier ways to get started making money online, but it does take quite a bit of work before you see any great results as you have to keep promoting constantly. It does teach you one hell of a lot about all aspects of Internet Marketing though as you will need to learn how to write and submit articles, create and maintain a blog, social networking is a great help to affiliates too..the list goes on and on. Re: Affiliate Marketing - Open for Discussion - You made some very good points here Jeff and I agree with you, Affiliate Marketing should not be something that you concentrate all your efforts into. As i said earlier I have learned a lot with Affiliate Marketing and continue to do so, and it has helped me tremendously to understand what I am going to have to do in my chosen niche(s). I am also being coached by the same group of mentors as GT and we are all moving forward daily to achieve our ultimate goals. Take care, Carol

I am also interested in creating an ebook one day and am glad that I can finally contribute to someone who is, maybe not so up to date in an area that I have some knowlege of. Also I forgot to mention Affiliate Marketing from my previous post. Getting others to sell WhyNot's ebooks for him is a great way of promoting as well.
