1. Do you have a specific niche for your Internet business? This is something you want put some thought into before you develop your website.

Niche marketing allows you to focus on a specific theme that may not be as competitive as a broad theme would be. For example a broad theme could be cooking. A targeted niche would be how to prepare Chinese food.

Choosing a niche around a hobby or something you have a passion for is smart. If you don't have anything particular in mind take a look at what is going on in the world around you and you will come up with possible business ideas.

2. If you just want to test a niche out you can open a free blog at Blogger.com. They are owned by Google and make it very easy to get started.

You can use your blog as your actual website. Monetize it with Google Adsense ads and you have a possible income stream.

3. Host your own blog using the WordPress blogging platform. This is better than using the free resource at Blogger.com because you control everything about this blog.

Hosting companies such as Host Gator make it very easy to set your blog up. You can purchase your domain name from them. They will register it for you and then it's as simple as clicking a couple of buttons and you have your own website ready to develop.

4. Hire someone to set up your blog. There are many freelancers who will set a blog up for less than $50.

The advantage to this is you do not have to do it yourself. Plus they can customize any plug-ins that you need for things such as spam filters, setting up a ping list, and so on.

5. Use a service such as The Affiliate Power Group to set up a niche blog that is optimized with numerous income streams. One advantage to going with a membership site like this is not only can you get your website you can also get coaching on how to promote it online.

I have also done many different things in my life. Started as a hairdresser and did that for 20 years, some of them working from home (which was good when my children were young and needed me around). Then worked as a bookkeeper and then a credit manager in a video distribution company for 18 years. Loved the job but hated having to answer to a boss. In between joined an MLM company selling health and weight loss products and then became a bookkeeper again but working for myself with my own clients. Started internet marketing and this I truly love. I can work the hours that suit me and it's totally up to me to do the work if I want to succeed. MichelleJ
Re: e-Commerce and e-Payment providers - When I came back to Japan in 1999 I sometimes used to ask my students if they would buy anything on the Internet and at that time most thought it was too risky. I'd encourage them to try by using well known sites such as Amazon.co.jp and also pointed out that using a credit card on a reputable site was safer than using it at a restaurant. I can't remember the last time I had that discussion or when the "tipping point" occurred in Japan. To answer your other question, I use Paypal for several reasons: 1. Brand familiarity 2. Easy to use 3. Free to withdraw 50,000yen+ to my Japanese bank account - a huge benefit (but maybe other systems also offer that...?) 4. Easy to cancel subscriptions On the down side, their transaction fees are quite costly, they are difficult to contact and when disputes arise you can sometimes lose even when you can prove via your tracking service that the disputed item was "delivered" to the customer's address!
Re: what position to request? - Hi Michael, Great suggestion from David, or you could try something around a design consultancy, How about Website Design Consultant, Design and Development Manager, Website Support and Development Manager or maybe Internet Business Development Consultant.
