An Introduction To Work At Home Transcription Jobs

Work at home transcription jobs are quickly growing as a popular type of profession for individuals who elect to work from the comfort of their own home, set their own hours, and be their own boss.

These individuals normally work on a contractual basis as independent contractors. This means that they are not "employed" as individuals who are actually hired by a company; they serve per project and are paid per project.

These individuals work to transcribe certain types of information, and they may even edit information that is provided to them from various types of clients and businesses. Typically, this is done from the home or "personal" computer.

Transcription Training

Transcription training typically consists of courses or studying codes and information that are standard to the job which is being performed. The person who engages in the transcription job at home must be comfortable with their typing skills.

Typically, the individual that is more comfortable with typing on the computer is able to work more quickly and make more of a profitable income overall. In addition to being at ease with typing, an individual should also know and have an effective understanding of computers in general.

As mentioned previously, there are some jobs that require specific coursework in order to complete the projects as necessary. Individuals who perform this type of work, for example, for a medical business must know and understand the codes that are necessary for medical transcription. Those that work with insurance companies must know and understand the codes that are associated with insurance transcription.

In order to be proficient in this particular field, it is best to learn as much as you possibly can regarding all types of transcription work. However, if you want to focus on a particular type, such as medical transcription, then you should focus your coursework on this type.

Job Competition

When it comes to work at home transcription jobs, you should understand that the competition is fierce! People from all around the world are working to compete to win projects by certain clients and companies.

The rule of thumb for this type of work at home typing job is: "The more you know, the more you grow". This basically means that you should take on one particular type of transcription job and then learn as much as you can about that particular type.

The fields of medical transcription and legal transcription are the two most popular types of transcription jobs that you can get involved in. There are many reasons for this. In the medical and legal field cases are often ongoing and last for quite some time. In addition to this, the professionals that work in this field simply do not have the time to spend transcribing the cases that are presented to them.

This is where you come in. You have the potential to make a lot of money and get a wide range of clients by simply taking the time to complete the extra coursework for medical and legal transcription. If you want a work at home transcription job, this is the way to go!

Re: Trade Shows - Are They Worth It? Re: Trade Shows - Are They Worth It? - HI, I have used trade shows (not participated) to collect potential clients. For example, the Home & Garden Industry is extremely behind the time in regards to their websites. I attended an Home & Garden Expo in Denver and collected all the companies contact information. I plan on cold calling & mailing information to each business. It also gave me time to research the industry more, talk directly to the owners in many cases, and learn more about what they need. Jeff
Re: What If Steve Jobs Hadn't Returned To Apple In 1997? Re: What If Steve Jobs Hadn't Returned To Apple In 1997? - Thanks for sharing with us Yinko. Steve Jobs is definitely a visionary. Not only his products are innovative in a technological sense, but he's managed to turn a tech-company's products into a lifestyle.... a lifestyle!! [quote:zfqoq43n]Fast Forward to today. Apple has the sexiest products in the business: iMacs, Macbooks, iPhones, iPods and more.[/quote:zfqoq43n] I think not only tech would be different (music players and phones), but ways we can think of marketing and branding. What Steve Jobs did was of course no easy task for the smaller businesses, but he did start somewhere. What I did not know was that Apple is worth about as much as Google. How do you think Apple accomplish what they did? In terms of strategy wise? If you could advice Steve on one thing, what would it be?
