Finding data entry jobs to increase your income can be fun and rewarding if you have the right skills and know where to look for them.

There are as many types of data entry as there are clients. With a data entry job you could be creating a product list, updating a client's address book or put together a business card list. You might enter item numbers, product codes and prices into a database.

As a matter of fact, almost anything you can do in a secretarial position can be done with a home data entry business. Often managers and administrators don't have the time to take care of these important tasks so they hire out and find people to help get the job done.

Desirable Skills

If you have the following, you have the desired skills to do a great job with data entry positions.

1. Great typing skills - Almost all data entry jobs are done by computer. The better your typing skills, the more work you're likely to get and the more money you stand to make.

2. Basic computer skills - Data entry generally requires knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as Word and Excel.

3. Attention to detail - You will often be inputting data that can throw off things like inventory if you transpose a number so precision is valued.

4. Ability to follow directions - The client will expect you to listen to directions and follow them. If you can't, the chances of being hired for additional work will diminish.

5. Patience - When you input data all day long, it takes endurance to get the job done.

6. Self-motivation - When you work from home discipline is required to keep you on task.

While entering data all day can be a time consuming job, if your goal is to work from home then a data entry job can help you increase your income. Remember, the more accurate and quick you are the better chances of getting and keeping a good data entry job.

Along with the skills it takes to perform data entry, you'll need to have the proper work environment. Especially when you work from home, you'll require an area where you can do your data entry job without distractions since most data entry jobs require a high degree of accuracy.

Finding Data Entry Jobs

Finding quality data entry jobs requires a little bit of research. Using a search engine, type "data entry" and you'll find freelance websites that provide a lot of data entry jobs. Think outside the box and use social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter to your advantage and find clients that need data entry help. Many good clients can be found there looking for qualified people to do complete their data entry jobs.

Previous experience in fields like healthcare, construction, sports, entertainment, or Internet marketing might give you an edge over someone who has never worked in those fields so think about marketing yourself as the Doctor's Data Entry Specialist or the Project Manager's Friend.

Now, take the tools you have and partner them with sleuthing skills and outside the box thinking and get that data entry job to increase your income.
