Necessary skills for Data Entry Workers

There are many skills that you will need to possess if you plan on working from home in a data entry position. Many of them are things that you probably already have, but you may also need to learn a few new skills so that you can have a great work from home job that pays the bills and still allows you time to do the things that you would like to do.

First of all, you absolutely need to be an organized person. With data entry jobs, you are going to have a lot to do and time frames in which you need to get all of the stuff done. You want to be sure that you are going to be able to meet your deadlines, so you want to have a good system for keeping track of the things that need to be done and the dates that they should be done by. You also need a great system for charting how much money you are making and for making sure that you are paying all of the bills that need to be paid.

Secondly, you have to have the skills that are needed to get out there and chase down jobs. Working from home in a data entry position might mean that you have to be out there finding your own work and applying for different jobs each day. Therefore, you need to know what you are doing and be ready and willing to get done what needs to be done during those times. Remember, this might be tough for some people, so it might be a skill that grows with you as time goes by.

Also, you need to have a good handle over your computer and your computer skills. This should include typing and keyboarding skills, which will become your most important skills for your job. But, it also needs to include skills for using the internet, for using other programs, and sometimes for being able to figure out brand new programs without any supervision. You never know when a client or a boss will have you do something that you've never done before, so you need to be prepared and have a good idea of how to figure out new programs that you might never have seen before.

You also should have good skills when it comes to working on the internet and getting things accomplished. You'll probably spend most of your day in front of the computer, so you need to be really good at working with one that is online!

Re: Essential Leadership skills Re: Essential Leadership skills - Great thread, Yinka. I agree with Robert and GT that at any point in time we possess at least one of those skills, with the ability to call upon any of the other skills when needed. Of course, everyone is born with specific skills and traits, and some skills and traits need to be learned and put into practice first.

The other problem is that we tend to relate to people on the internet and forget about relationships with real people on a face to face basis. This is in itself is scary enough without thinking robots taking over. MichelleJ
