Why Every Online Business Should Have A Mailing List

A mailing list, also called an "opt-in" list, is compiled of email addresses of those who have willingly given the information. By giving you their email address, they have granted you the permission to send them messages via email in order to inform them of important information.

All popular Internet companies, or even regular home based companies, have a mailing list to help spread the word of upcoming sales, products and other exciting information. A mailing list acts as a virtual newsletter, and the fact that you can send out a mailing list from the comfort of your own home is even more beneficial to your online business.

You can prompt visitors who are on your online website to enter their email address in order to be added to the mailing list. This could be done with a simple text box on the side of your website, a pop-up box that occurs when the visitor comes to the site, or you could upload a permanent form that the visitor could fill out.

If you are trying to decide if a mailing list is right for your online business, then read the reasons below why it is a good idea:

Help Promote the Product

Research has proven that it takes a person to see your product on your website at least seven times before they will buy it. The best way to make sure that they see the product seven times is to send out emails to each address at a different time interval to remind the person about the benefit of the product.

Make sure that you have other valuable information for the person to read so that they do not feel as if they are receiving the same message over and over again. If this occurs, they might direct your mailings to the dreaded spam folder.

Product Evaluation

Having a mailing list can supply you with the quickest way to tell what your subscriber wants. With a responsive mailing list, you do not have to pay survey companies to conduct product research for you. Since the customer is receiving the survey prompt directly from you, they will also feel more comfortable giving you their honest opinion.

Joint Marketing

You can make money from your mailing list by helping other online business owners. This is called affiliate marketing. The business owner will pay you a commission for promoting their product ideas to your mailing list subscribers. This could be in the form of a pay-per-click program or they might pay you just for listing their ad.

You can do the same thing with your ads in other online business mailing lists. However, you should still promote ads that pertain to your product and would interest your subscribers.

The points discussed above are just some of the benefits of having a mailing list for your online business. The benefits are endless and you will soon see what a wonderful asset a mailing list can actually be. If you do not have a mailing list yet, now is the time to do so.

Dan Kennedy Marketing Methods Dan Kennedy Marketing Methods - We haven't sent out the physical letter yet as the person owning the list wanted to make modifications to the letter that we knew would work well but the List owner had a point - it didn't reflect her personality so her clients would know it didn't come from her. Lesson learned for me. We're back to the drawing board with the list owner more involved in the development of the letter and emails. I should have known better being a Business Analyst in my day job that you never leave the end-user out. So Evan we haven't had the opportunity to test any of it yet but it's been a fun process for me to stand back and look at.
