2010: Getting Started in a Work at Home Business

There has never been a better time than now to consider your work at home opportunities. With a possible recession on the horizon, job security is far from what it used to be. Meanwhile, more and more people are discovering that they can make the same income - and sometimes much more - by working at home.

There are numerous options for someone wishing to work at home. You can do everything from offering freelance services, such as writing or web design, to participating in multi-level marketing programs, to running an Internet based business such as:

If you're more interested in working for an employer, there are also a range of administrative, telecommuting and professional work at home opportunities too.

So how do you begin if you want to work at home? Well, the first step is to think about what you'd like to do, and what will fit in with your other demands. For example, if you're a mom at home with kids, you'll probably need a work at home business or job that you can fit around your children's sleep times. Or if you still have a job and want to make a gradual transition to working at home, you'll likely need a business that you can run after hours and that doesn't impinge on your day job.

When it comes to what you want to do - that's a matter of brainstorming and thinking about the kinds of work at home businesses or jobs that interest you... and are likely to maintain your interest over time. Despite the huge amount of hype about working at home, there IS work involved! Having said that, if you find something that you're inherently passionate about... it may not feel like work at all.

Of course, while having an interest in your work at home business is almost mandatory, you should also choose something for which you have - or can learn - the necessary skills and knowledge. And don't rule out learning - many work at home businesses may seem foreign to you now, but that doesn't mean you can't quickly find the necessary resources to learn and master the know-how you need.

Once you find the right work at home endeavor, it's a matter of putting everything you have into it to ensure your success. Running a work at home business, in particular, can be challenging, but the rewards are certainly worth it. Plus, although you may be based at home, that doesn't mean you're alone. All over the world there are other people just like you, running a work at home business or in a work at home job. Many of these people "meet" on popular work at home discussion boards to exchange ideas, give each other business, and talk about work and life in general. I strongly recommend you do the same.

There are more work at home business and job opportunities available now than ever before, and I encourage you to explore those on offer. Chances are there is one that will deliver the fun, income and lifestyle you desire.

Re: What or Who Sparks Your Business Interest Re: What or Who Sparks Your Business Interest - Hi This is really a great thread. For me it was always wanting to be responsible for myself without anyone have the power to make my decisions for me. I have also done many different things in my life. Started as a hairdresser and did that for 20 years, some of them working from home (which was good when my children were young and needed me around). Then worked as a bookkeeper and then a credit manager in a video distribution company for 18 years. Loved the job but hated having to answer to a boss. In between joined an MLM company selling health and weight loss products and then became a bookkeeper again but working for myself with my own clients. Started internet marketing and this I truly love. I can work the hours that suit me and it's totally up to me to do the work if I want to succeed. MichelleJ
