The internet offers such a wide variety of ways to work at home that you are really only limited by what your mind can dream up.

Internet marketing is defined as the use of the internet to advertise and sell merchandise or services. This involves the use of websites and e-mail to inform customers about a product, solicit their questions, and accept their orders directly through the electronic medium.

What that means to you is you can work at home and make money if you have an internet connection. Everyday people who have never ordered a product online buy something. More and more people who never have even used a computer log online and start surfing.

To sell something on the internet you need a website or a blog. Let's look at how you could use your own money making website to work at home.

- First of all design your website with your visitors in mind. It should load fast and keep your graphics to a minimum. People use the internet to get information and you can better give them that with words than pictures.

- Know your audience. Many websites start out targeting one thing and end up with no theme. If you decide to target dog lovers do not have automobile products on your site. Staying focused seems like common sense, but you would be surprised how many websites get off track.

- Get good products to sell. If you do not have any join some affiliate programs and sell other people's stuff. This is great because they will collect the money and ship out the products. You just market and make sales. What a great way to work from home.

- Keep you website fresh. Adding new content brings visitors and search engines back. Adding new products gives you a chance to re-sell existing customers. A website that is sitting languishing in an outdated mode on cyberspace is not making anyone any money.

- Hire a professional if you do not think you can do it yourself. They will be able to include all of the legal stuff like privacy statements and guarantees. They will also be able to set your site up so it is easy to get around in. This is know as the navigation of your website.

- Learn how to get traffic to your website. If you build it they will come does not apply to internet marketing. The single biggest reason people fail online is they do not have enough buying customers. This all starts with getting people in the front door so to speak.

You can work from home and increase your chances of making a good living if you master some of the techniques of internet marketing. Having a quality website to sell for you 24 hours a day means you can make money from home even when you are not working and that is a great thing.

Re: Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? - Hi Kevin, Like GT suggested, I also think you can add Internet Marketing as a sub category in the Marketing section and also a Social marketing as subcategory. Online marketing/internet marketing/online promotion are the same, and it will be best to use the common term - Internet marketing. I can't think about someone to moderate a Social Marketing category. We all use it, we all know how to make it work and we all have our own different experience with it.
Internet Marketing Conference on SLife - I've been trying to log in but it keeps crashing.. anyways.. a friend of mine in BC plans on holding Internet Marketing Conferences on SecondLife and have the same top internet marketers that would normally be in Live Internet Marketing conference speak. Income will be generated from admission charges, product sales during breaks, sponsor tables, etc etc.. Just to get the ideas flowing in your head that anything you can do in the real world can be replicated in SL. There is no planned date as of yet for this conference.

You sound like a very enthusiastic person who likes what she does and in Internet Marketing that is very important and you also sound like a 'people person' which is great. Internet Marketing is time consuming and challenging but can also be extremely rewarding and hopefully profitable. I don't know how many forums you have signed up to but this is one of the best. The support and guidance you get here is what makes it the success that it is but as I am sure you know from looking at the side bar that there are many aspects of business that are catered for here which will help you along the way, best wishes, Mal.
Re: How many mambers of this forum are also member of WF? - Hi Kevin, I have to agree with Tanny. All forums are unique in their own way, but doesn't mean that one is better than the other. What you might get out of one forum, you may not get from another. For instance, the WF focuses on Internet Marketing, while this forum focuses on Entrepreneurship. Each has their own set of benefits. I don't think you can really compare one to the other, unless of course they focused on the same topic. I have learned a lot from this forum, stuff I would never have gotten from the WF. With that being said, I've learned a lot from the WF, specifically since I need to know about Internet Marketing and running an online business. The addition of the Online Business forum here will help, and Jeff is doing a great job as moderator.
