This article focuses on the latter-reciprocal linking. Reciprocal linking means that your website links to another and their website links back to yours. It’s a great way to increase your ranking in search engines. Search engines use link popularity to rank sites. Therefore exchanging reciprocal links with other websites will encourage visitors to not only visit your website but bookmark it as well.

Now, this is not as simple as throwing your links all over the World Wide Web. If that were the case nearly all websites would be popular. In order to have success with reciprocal linking you should bare in mind these factors.

The quality of links should out weigh the quantity. The inbound links should come from sites that are relevant to your site content Partners should link to you from pages listing as few links as possible.

The first thing is to get people to want to link to your website. This begins with having good web content. Analyze the value of your content in relation to your competitors.

Next, you need to research websites that are worth linking to and that will drive relevant traffic to your website. Take your time to identify the directories, news sites, portals, blogs and ezines that are specific to your field. There are many software tools that you can purchase to help make this task more efficient. They will locate relevant sites, collect email addresses and even prepare letters requesting that the website link back to yours. Arelis Reciprocal Link Solution, Links Manager and Linkpro are but a few examples. Even if you decide to use software, it’s important to visit the websites that these tools generate. However, good quality content is still the best way to build long term link popularity.

You can determine the websites traffic by visiting www.alexa.com you will also learn the length of time their site has been online. Going to linkpopularity.com will also tell you how many sites link to them for further proof that they get a lot of traffic.

One should keep in mind the following components when adopting a reciprocal linking strategy:

You will need to know the name and email address of the person who runs the site, as well you should keep a record of the date you contacted the owner of the website and the date that he or she responds.

You will also need to make note of the resulting deal. Don’t be surprised if some people say no, while others will not reply at all. Some may want money for links.

If the web owner agrees to swap links, verify that the links are in place and check the website periodically for the link. Some people swap links and then pull yours.

When applied correctly, reciprocal linking is an excellent strategy for getting traffic and improving your search engine ranking.

Re: Specific Strategies To Raise PR Levels? - After re-reading through the posts in this thread it seems to me like there might be a little confusion as to what Page Rank (PR) really is. For those who don't know... PR is a number between 1 and 10 that Google assigns to a web page based on it's importance. With 10 being the highest and most important. It's mainly determined by the number and quality of inbound links to the web page but there are other factors as well. It is NOT the ranking your site has in the Google search engine or any other search engine. If you are ranked #3 on google for "home business" that does not mean you have a PR of 3. They are completely separate things. Furthermore, PR does not determine how high a site ranks in the search engines. It's possible and very common for a site with a low PR to outrank and site with a higher PR for the same keyword phrase. If you want to raise your PR then you need more backlinks. Higher PR backlinks will pass more link juice to you and help raise it much easier. On that same note, if you want to increase your search engine rankings for a particular keyword then you also need more backlinks with the keyword you are targeting as the anchor text. When it comes to that, Page Rank and Search Engine Ranking Positions are very similar but that is it. People often think that they need high PR to get good search engine rankings and it is not true. They also tend to think that just because a site has high PR then it is better than a site with lower PR, that is also not always the case. One final thing about this is that the PR you see on your Google Toolbar for a web page only updates a few times per year and is not necessarily the actual PR for that page. The actual PR is stored at Google and is updated constanty, and is not shown to the public. Only they know what it really is. I hope that clears up some common misconceptions about Google Page Rank (PR).

Moreover, we have a wonderful tool to find out from previous posts. On the top right corner, use 'Advanced Search' and write 'Search Engine Tips'. It brings up all the previous posts with that information. Check it out. You will be surprised all the inherent information stored.

The computer geek tells everyone in school & even hands out 100's of flyers about his party Friday night...what happens? his friends end up showing up and a few new people...even the new people leave right away because it is not what they are looking for. The High School Football Captain ends up just telling a few good buddies, and within hours the entire school not only knows about it, but everyone wants to come, and everyone does come & stay. One defenition of "optimize is "To make as perfect or effective as possibe." How effective are your article marketing campaigns? Could you be distributing content (that is what search engines index) more effectively? In a perfect world, who would you want promoting your website, web pages, and web content?
