Don’t worry, I’m not trying to sell you anything. :) This isn’t an ebook or report that you absolutely must buy to get rich online. Nor is it a piece of software that no self-respecting Internet marketer would be caught dead without.

Rather, it is a piece of advice. It’s something which I’m sure you already know but somehow, like the human that you are, it must be drummed into your consciousness before it will take.

So, without further ceremony, the very first step to Internet riches is the realization that:

"There is no such thing as a free lunch."

Don’t look at me with those incredulous eyes. I know that you know there is no such thing as a free lunch. And I am sure that you apply that very well in your everyday life.

Too well, actually. When that husband of yours comes home bearing flowers and chocolate and tells you that nothing's wrong, you can at least pretend to believe him. At least until he starts a conversation with, "Honey, there's something I need to tell you which I hope you won't get too upset about ...."

But, how about online? Do you apply the same skepticism?

I’m sure you have heard of the Nigerian scam. You get an email from a stranger that asks to "borrow" your bank account to transfer a couple of million dollars and offers you a cut of 20% - 30% of the amount transferred.

How about those sites that promises you practically instant riches for a ridiculously small amount of work or money? You plunk down your $9.95 per month and they will do all the recruiting and selling for you. You just sit back, relax and wait for the money to roll in. Just don't forget the $9.95 per month. ;)

Or the self-styled Internet marketing guru that tells you how difficult it is on the net, and how, after many years and very many dollars later, he has come up with a system that can automatically generate thousands of dollars a week, even for a total klutz like you. And, out of the goodness of his heart, he is willing to sell it to you for $29.95.

There are many other sites or schemes with similarly ridiculous offers that are thriving on the web. Seems that when we come online, we suspend our healthy skepticism.

Admit it, you have been tempted, haven’t you? I know I have. Probably lost a couple of dollars, right? I did.

The worst things about these sites is not so much the small amount of money you might be tempted to spend but the loss in time and focus when you stumble across such sites. You will spend time browsing the sites since, invariably, they will all claim to be different from other similar sites. And, before you know it, you have wasted that Saturday afternoon that you were going to research the article on Internet marketing.

And such sites are all over the Internet.

Wise up. The next time you come across such a site, tell yourself that there is no such thing as a free lunch, click the "Back" button on your browser and continue with what you were doing. An Internet business is the way to Internet riches, providing you don’t get sidetracked by offers that are too good to be true.

Step by step approach - Here's what I would do; Step 1 - Observe Wal-Mart’s target customers, what does Wal-Mart offer them? How long do they stay? Discover what it is that they might want or need that Wal-Mart doesn't offer, and then write those ideas down. Some ideas to get you started are - A cafe or fast food venue, something for the kids to do while the parents shop, etc Step 2 - Take that list, and weigh up the pros and cons of each idea, and then select the best one for you. Don't worry about not using all the space. Step 3 - Start the best business for you, and then release the other ideas to the general market and sublet the rest of the space to those who could fill some of the niches you've come up with, plus any they can come up with. If money isn't a factor then developing the building to suit multiple small leases may be a better option, as it's a diversified income, which is potentially more stable than one big income stream.
Need a book recommendation for writing better - I'm always looking for ways to improve my writing skills, so I was just wondering if anyone could recommend a good copywriting or copyediting book? Re: Video conference system for families living in different cou - 1) How much will someone pay for the service? 2.1) What costs are involved on the business end? 2.2) What percent on top of that do you think you deserve as profit? 3) How many people will sign up for the service? These three will give you a rough estimate of the value of your idea. use the equation below with respect to the questions above to figure out the value of your idea. ((1 - (2.1 + 2.2)) X 3) You have alread identified major problems for your idea -- you have competition that is free! Computers are easy to hook to televisions, and it is becoming easier at very fast rate. (For free stuff other than skype, look up NetMeeting if you have Windows XP.) The video conferencing systems do a poor job of creating the feel of a physical presence. Even high dollar systems with dedicated internet bandwidth and extremely nice tracking video cameras do a poor job, especially for long distance runs. I have the experienced the disappointing performance of some of these systems on our campus. Video can not recreate the connection felt when in the same room with another person. Step 1, Quickly and roughly calculate the cost of the system you propose. Step 2, Compare that with what you think someone will pay and the cost of your current compeition. Step 3, Go / No-Go.
Delivering True Value - I've only just recently started to dwell on the concept of "Value". It's a word I've taken for granted in the English language and not spent time to understand it's meaning. Maybe through the law of attraction I came across a download of "Science of Getting Rich" and the definition of Value came about in Chapter 6: How Riches Come to You. In this day and age information (use value) if tailored to a partners needs that they can act on has tremendous Value.
