Writing Online Articles
A well written article is a great way to boost your readership and your reputation as a writer. It serves as an introduction to you and your products and services. This article is about how you can tweak your articles to make them more suitable for the online community.
Be Familiar With What You Are Writing About
If you don't know anything about a subject, how can you write knowledgeably, passionately and persuasively about it, right? So make sure you have some familiarity with a topic before starting to write about it.
Use Bullet Points And Subheadings
Most of your readers are in an awful hurry. So do them a favor and separate your article into different sections using subheadings. And if you are presenting a list, use bullet points. Remember to do it in such a way that your readers can get the gist of your article just by reading the subheadings and the bullet points.
Write Like You Are Talking To Your Reader
I have always been a fan of writing in the first person. The reader gets the feeling that you are personally talking to her, and will be much more open to listening to what you have to say. And as a writer, I find that it is easier and more enjoyable to write in that way.
Be Clear And Concise
Your readers are more interested in the knowledge and experience that you have, and less in your writing skills. So write in short sentences, be clear and to the point, and don't worry too much about not being a Hemingway or Shakespeare. And don't forget to write short paragraphs as well.
Check For Spelling And Grammatical Errors
Don't consider your article finished without running it through a spell checker. And before submitting your article, spend a few minutes and give it a onceover to eliminate any grammatical errors. Remember that it doesn't have to be perfect, but you also do not want any obvious errors in your article.
Conclusion
It is sad that there are articles written purely for SEO ranking, their only purpose being to serve as fodder for the search engines, and not meant for human eyes. Despite that, I feel that if you were to put your name to an article, you should be proud of it. As such, any article you write, for whatever purpose, should be a well written piece that a human reader can appreciate and enjoy.
