The Importance of Targeted Website Traffic
Almost every entrepreneur that does business online knows the value of driving visitors to a website, but not everybody understands the importance of getting targeted website traffic. There is a difference.
Visitors who are not targeted are like window shoppers strolling through a shopping mall. They browse aimlessly, not seriously interested in the goods or services your online shop has to offer. Your chance of selling something to untargeted visitors is pretty slim and you will need plenty of them just to make a few sales.
Targeted visitors, on the other hand, are like shoppers who go to the shopping mall on purpose. They know there is a good chance that your online “shop” will have what they are looking for. Your chance of selling something to these motivated prospects is very good and you don’t need as many of them to make your business successful.
There are ways to structure all of your marketing methods to attract targeted website traffic. It is in your best interest to focus your efforts on learning and applying these ways.
One of the best ways to pre-qualify your prospects is through Internet search engines. Prospective buyers who use search engines already know what they want. All you have to do is get their attention and let them know you have exactly what they are looking for.
Effective search engine marketing begins with the process of optimizing your website for the keywords and keyword phrases that clearly represent your products and services. Elements to be optimized include the Title tag, the Headline tags, the Meta description and Meta keyword tags, and all of the content on your site, including blog posts, articles and promotional items.
You will follow-up your on-site optimization with off-site optimization that focuses largely on building backlinks to specific pages on your website. You can do this through article marketing, social networking, guest blogging, blog commenting, directory submissions, link exchanges and other methods.
Your sales success depends on the keywords you choose and you can track your keyword success from the point of sale all the way back to your initial keyword research. Here’s an example:
– Your targeted visitor bought an item because it clearly filled a specific need of theirs;
– The visitor had taken time to check out the item on your site because it promised to fill that need;
– The visitor arrived at your web page after doing a keyword search in a search engine, finding your web page high on the first page of the search results, and clicking the link;
– Your keyword was positioned high because you optimized your web page effectively for it and you supported it with a variety of off-site optimization methods;
– And the reason for your success: you were diligent in your research and chose a keenly targeted keyword for your marketing!
Your success was no accident. You planned it that way from start to finish. If your chosen keyword or keyword phrase is focused, accurate and honest, your prospect will be pre-qualified and primed to purchase.
On the other hand, if your keyword is not sufficiently focused, or if it is intentionally misleading, you risk annoying the prospect and losing them. Don’t take that risk. Always be as honest and as clear as possible in your keyword marketing and in all of your content and other marketing materials. Your reputation and your brand as an Internet Marketer depends on it
The importance of targeted website traffic cannot be overly emphasized. Targeted prospects – visitors who have been attracted by effective keyword marketing and who have been primed to purchase – are valuable. Obviously, they are worth your best effort.
