Writing Product Reviews To Get More Website Traffic
One way to get more website traffic and sales is by writing product reviews to highlight items you are marketing and selling. You can post the reviews on your website or blog and then use offsite marketing techniques to draw pre-qualified, highly targeted traffic to them.
The good thing about product reviews is that more consumers are turning to reviews as a source of information and insight before making a purchase decision. The drawback is that more marketers are also jumping on the review bandwagon, thereby increasing your competition. To enhance the effectiveness of your reviews, you need to write and market them well.
In order to write an effective review, you should be familiar with the product or service. Obviously, it is best if you have purchased the product and used it yourself. As an option to making a purchase, you might try contacting the product owner to ask for a free copy or unit for promotional purposes. Alternatively, you can research the product extensively through search engine searches. If you choose this method to gather information, be very careful how you write your review so as not to cause any copyright violations.
A product review, just like any other article or blog post, should be optimized for the chosen keywords. In the case of a review, the keywords will be either “Review of Product XYZ” or “Product XYZ Review” where XYZ is the name of your product.
Use your keyword phrase in the title of the review, in the first line of the text, and once or twice more throughout the post. Include an image of the product, if you can, and place the keyword phrase in the alt text of the image.
When writing product reviews, be honest and truthful, and try not to be too enthusiastic or promotional. Include facts and details that can be verified or proven by other users. Do not state guarantees unless they can by substantiated. Only include statistics if they come from a verified source, or if they are completely true and accurate.
Information in an effective product review can include:
- Product Summary
- Product Features and Benefits
- Positives and Negatives
- Price
- Support Provided (if applicable)
- Your experience with the product and your personal opinion
Once the review has been written, optimized and posted live, you can build some backlinks to it through offsite marketing, which can include article marketing, social networking, forum marketing, and other methods of your choice.
For example, to promote your product review through article marketing, write a keyword optimized article on a topic very closely related to the product and submit the article to online article directories. Most article directories allow an author resource box where you can include a link to your product review page and a call to action, encouraging the reader to click the link to get more information related to the topic of the article they just read.
Where allowed, use your product review keyword phrase as the anchor text for the link that points to the review page. This will help the review page move higher in the search results.
Visitors to the article directory who read your article just may decide to visit your website. If you have what they are looking for and you can get them to your site, you have a good chance of making a sale because they have now become highly qualified prospects.
If you build enough backlinks to your review page through article directories and other offsite marketing methods, not only will you begin receiving traffic from the sites where the links are located, but your review page will also climb in the search engine rankings, thus sending you even more targeted traffic.
Writing product reviews to get more website traffic is a great idea because it is free, it is not difficult, and it is an ideal way to pre-qualify your website visitors. Pick a product and write a review today.
