This traffic is targeted because these people have searched for a specific keyword or phrase and the search engine is “recommending” your web page to them.

Some of the ways to develop SEO link popularity for your home business website include direct link swapping with related websites, article marketing, Social Media marketing, forum posting, and paid advertising.

In all cases, for best effect, every site your website links to should have a strong and definite relationship or tie-in to your market niche or the marketing theme of your website. The more similar the websites are, the better the quality of the links will be. This holds true for all forms of link building.

For example, if your site specializes in home business opportunities, then you should aim for direct links from sites specializing in that same field; when you write articles for directories, write them along the theme of your website and use related keywords and phrases; when marketing on Social Media sites or in online business and marketing forums, include your website link in your user profile and engage either members with similar interests, or members who closely fit the profile of your ‘targeted prospect’.

Most marketers will test a variety of link-building methods to find the ones that work best for them. When you identify methods that work well for you, give them more focus.

Building backlinks should be both a priority and an ongoing process because the more links you have, the better it is for your popularity rating, and besides, not all links last forever. Some drop away over time, so you need to make sure they are always being replaced.

One final thought on improving the popularity of your website: If you make the design and content of your website interesting, appealing and beneficial to your visitors, and you maintain that high level of quality, not only will you give people a reason to return again and again, but the websites you want to establish links with will also be more receptive to your invitations.

Re: How To Post A Forum Topic That Gets Responses - The key is to NOT post something that simply promotes your business and include a link back to your own website (or affiliate link). These posts are considered spam and removed immediately. There's so many newbies who try to abuse the forums by asking a general business question, and then offering their own web link as a solution.
Re: How can I promote my site? - This might be good promotion for your type of website: Start building a fan base ('list') by getting involved on websites where your target market is already hanging out. Post comments and give valuable advice. (I think My Space used to be big for creatives & musicians.) Every time you interact, include a link to a landing page on your website. Try this - don't post links that go to your home page. Rather, link to specific simple pages on your site which offer free information that is very valuable to your customers. On that page, have an 'opt-in' form (asking for name and email). Keep the design of this page as simple as possible. This method still works very well, so you should try it.
Re: Using Craigslist SEO to Promote Your Website - To build a Link Wheel you need to join several social sites such as squidoo, blogger, wordpress, livejournal, hubpages, etc... around 10 or so should be sufficient. Then, you build one site such as Hubpages and link it back to your main website. Then you build a second site on say Blogger and link it to your Hub that you built, and to your main website. Then you build another site and link it to your last site and to your main website. Just keep repeating this until all sites are linked to each other one-by-one. When you are done each site will be linking to only the site before it and back to your main website. These can work really well. I've only recently gotten started using them but so far I have seen good results. Don't expect just one link wheel to skyrocket your rankings, especially in a competitive niche. However, they are a good thing to include in an overall link building campaign.
