1. Try to look for a niche that appeal and perhaps is familiar to you. Many times I see people starting home based businesses in the nutrition and supplement field because there are so many of them around. Ultimately these businesses fail because the owners really could care less about this niche.

Since you are starting out brand-new you're given an opportunity to find something that appeals to you. Niche affiliate marketing is a great way to start because there are so many different niches that offer affiliate products. You will most likely find something that you have an interest in.

2. Become a product of the product. By this I mean that buy the product you are going to promote and learn all about it.

People go online for information and this is an excellent home based internet business to start. It is possible to find information products that are very closely related to the theme of your home based business.

If you're going to use a physical product purchase it and learn everything about it. After that you can write a review about the product to your blog or website and tell more about it to your visitors. It gives you a big advantage if you know everything about your own product.

3. Learn the best ways to drive targeted traffic to your internet business site. Most people fail on the internet because they never get enough traffic to their website.

If you learn even a little bit about how to do this you can make money online. And you will outlast your competitors who will not take the time to become somewhat skillful in internet marketing.

4. While blogs and social sites are very popular today, use them to benefit your business. This is an excellent way to meet people and promote your business and products.

Plus search engines love blogs and will reward you with quality traffic if you create a good one. Social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook are fun to hang out in and can be a good source for customers as well.

Here were some basic ideas to start and build a home based internet business. Anyone can learn how to do a few key things that will make the difference in succeeding or failing with any home business you start.

Re: Who inspired you to start? Re: Who inspired you to start? - Hi Evan, I was inspired by Mr. Bill Gates ever since I was a student learning Computers. But I was motivated for Internet as my Business, when I read his book "The Road Ahead" in 1995. It was in this book that Gates laid out his vision of an interconnected world built around the Internet. Based on the premise that life will be transformed by the convergence of inexpensive computing and inexpensive communications, Gates drew from his experience at the center of the personal computer revolution to give insights on the growth, evolution and impact of technology. I had always looked up to Bill Gates as my idol. When I read this book, it made me more focussed on Microsoft and Internet, The Internet was one of the upcoming things in this time. So I took over to the Internet as my primary business. Regards,
Re: What or Who Sparks Your Business Interest Re: What or Who Sparks Your Business Interest - Hi This is really a great thread. For me it was always wanting to be responsible for myself without anyone have the power to make my decisions for me. I have also done many different things in my life. Started as a hairdresser and did that for 20 years, some of them working from home (which was good when my children were young and needed me around). Then worked as a bookkeeper and then a credit manager in a video distribution company for 18 years. Loved the job but hated having to answer to a boss. In between joined an MLM company selling health and weight loss products and then became a bookkeeper again but working for myself with my own clients. Started internet marketing and this I truly love. I can work the hours that suit me and it's totally up to me to do the work if I want to succeed. MichelleJ
Re: Trade Shows - Are They Worth It? Re: Trade Shows - Are They Worth It? - HI, I have used trade shows (not participated) to collect potential clients. For example, the Home & Garden Industry is extremely behind the time in regards to their websites. I attended an Home & Garden Expo in Denver and collected all the companies contact information. I plan on cold calling & mailing information to each business. It also gave me time to research the industry more, talk directly to the owners in many cases, and learn more about what they need. Jeff
