Here are five things look for in a legitimate affiliate marketing internet business.

1. Product

Obviously the first thing you want to look at with any program is the product you will be promoting. A number one question you should ask yourself is whether it is a product you truly have interest in. It will be much easier to stay motivated if you promote something you have a passion for. You should also think, is it a product which you can see yourself buying? If you would buy the product, chances are so would others .

2. Training offered

One of the top reasons so many internet business entrepreneurs fail with online programs and affiliate marketing programs is because of a lack of training. It is totally up to you how you want to start learning about the program. However, the best possible training you will get from the program's leaders. Look for video tutorials, e-books, or information packets that may be offered by the business.

3. Marketing tools provided

Along with training, you also want to look for marketing tools that the affiliate marketing business provides. There is always a chance to promote the program or products in forums, social sites, article directories, etc. However, you should be given banner ads, text links, and possibly even a free e-book you can use to reel in prospects.

4. Testimonials

Chances are you are not the person who has heard of the program or been involved with the program you are considering joining. That is why you should find people who are familiar with the program and ask them more about the business. Forums can be a great place to get the juice on a particular internet business opportunity.

5. Commission

The last thing you want to look for with an affiliate marketing business is the commission rate. You do not want to join an affiliate program which offers only 10-15% commission. Look for programs that have all of the criteria above and have at least a 25% commission payout.

There are pros and cons to Affiliate Marketing, just as there are to any business. As has been suggested, he best policy is to proceed with caution and do some research before jumping in. As Carol has recommended, this topic thread in the EvanCarmichael.com forum is the ideal place to ask questions and seek further input on available Affiliate Marketing programs. If a person is serious about building an online business and is interested in Affiliate Marketing plans, they should approach the process as they would any other form of business. Research, ask questions, compare opportunities, participate in forums on online business and Affiliate Marketing. GT :-]
Re: Affiliate Marketing - Open for Discussion - Hi GT Affiliate Marketing is one of the easier ways to get started making money online, but it does take quite a bit of work before you see any great results as you have to keep promoting constantly. It does teach you one hell of a lot about all aspects of Internet Marketing though as you will need to learn how to write and submit articles, create and maintain a blog, social networking is a great help to affiliates too..the list goes on and on. Re: Affiliate Marketing - Open for Discussion - You made some very good points here Jeff and I agree with you, Affiliate Marketing should not be something that you concentrate all your efforts into. As i said earlier I have learned a lot with Affiliate Marketing and continue to do so, and it has helped me tremendously to understand what I am going to have to do in my chosen niche(s). Re: How to develop sales contacts? - Everyone has the right idea here. Depending on your business, there are different techniques that you could use. For consultants and sales heavy businesses, there are three tactics that I have found especially useful in my business: 1. Attend Networking Events 2. Cold Calling 3. Referral Program 4. Affiliate Program (most successful) The affiliate program was successful for me, as I hooked up with a franchise consultant, and he gave multiple unit businesses that needed my credit card processing services. I highly suggest you hook up with a sales partner, and give him a cut of the monthly revenue.
Re: How many mambers of this forum are also member of WF? - Hi Kevin, I have to agree with Tanny. All forums are unique in their own way, but doesn't mean that one is better than the other. What you might get out of one forum, you may not get from another. For instance, the WF focuses on Internet Marketing, while this forum focuses on Entrepreneurship. Each has their own set of benefits. I don't think you can really compare one to the other, unless of course they focused on the same topic. I have learned a lot from this forum, stuff I would never have gotten from the WF. With that being said, I've learned a lot from the WF, specifically since I need to know about Internet Marketing and running an online business. The addition of the Online Business forum here will help, and Jeff is doing a great job as moderator.
