The most obvious reason to take advantage of social sites is the simple fact that it allows you to meet new people. It is not that long ago when it was quite hard to meet new people on the internet. Social sites have changed this totally. It is very easy to go some forums or Facebook and talk with people, and little by little gain their trust.

The difference between social sites and other alternative marketing techniques is that you have the ability to stay connected to those you meet. For example, in Facebook you can make friend requests to your potential customers. On Twitter, you can follow them and they can follow you thus allowing the two of you to see what each other has to say on a daily basis.

Social sites skip all of this as you can interact for free, meet new people instantly, and get your message across within seconds.

The final reason why you need to be utilizing social sites with your internet based business is because of the ability to talk to your target market. It is just a common sense that there is no use to send any advertisement to someone who probably isn't interested at all what you have to offer.

Forums are a perfect example of contacting your target market as each forum is separated into categories or sub-categories. This allows you to interact with people who are interested in the same things you have to offer, which makes it far easier to convert a prospect into a customer.

Re: Kevin's Case Study #11 - A New Forum Category? - Hi Kevin, Like GT suggested, I also think you can add Internet Marketing as a sub category in the Marketing section and also a Social marketing as subcategory. Online marketing/internet marketing/online promotion are the same, and it will be best to use the common term - Internet marketing. I can't think about someone to moderate a Social Marketing category. We all use it, we all know how to make it work and we all have our own different experience with it.
