Home Business Expert: 3 Qualities Of Leadership

"There is a leader within all of us". If you take a look around, you will find that those who are leaders are really not extra ordinary people, and you will realize that they do not really do any special things that have made them so successful. However you will also realize that they almost always do the same things, but they do them differently. Consistency, accountability, decisiveness these are the three qualities most leaders have in common. Let us take a look at them all.

Consistency : Ralph Waldo Emerson, the American philosopher, essayist, poet, and leader of the Transcendentalist movement in the early 19th century said "consistency is THE most crucial key to success". He believed that we live in a world of cause and effect'. The reputation of your business, how they perceive you and even whether they will buy from you or not, everything depends on how consistently you are functioning. So be consistent in your business policies and in your dealings with people.

But the meaning of consistency goes beyond that. This refers to your own efforts. Do remember that not every day can be the same there is bound to be some good ones and a few bad ones. So do not despair when it seems that the things are not moving your way keep doing your job consistently and eventually you will succeed.

Accountability : Accountability becomes a very important factor, particularly when you are working from home. There is a set system at the traditional job you could have been kept on task' by your boss or superiors. Then there are deadlines and competition among colleagues that also keeps one moving. But on the other hand, when you are on your own, staying on course may become very difficult. This is why you need an accountability partner that will help you keep on track and reach your goal. You may set yourself internal targets such as 50 customers within the first 6 months or achieving sales of $250,000 in the first year of operations they can be your accountability partner.

Decisiveness : Your single minded commitment and decisiveness is another key leadership quality. A true leader will know what he/she wants to achieve and will take steps in a decisive manner. The person is mentally very strong and can resolve any conflict easily. On the other hand someone who is indecisive will always be questioning about the consequences and so very rarely can he/she take action when it is needed.

So develop these three leadership qualities in yourself and you will surely be able to guide your home business to success.

Re: Business Women Peer Mentoring Spotlight Re: Business Women Peer Mentoring Spotlight - Hi Everyone, Gosh, I REALLY appreciate your concrete feedback. This was far more than I expected and I'm glad you said what you thought straight out. Each of you have shared something of value and I want to take some more time to think and really go over what each of you have said. However, I can see there are some things I need to change right away. What an interesting point about a NEW program perhaps making people think they are guinea pigs! This is NOT what I want to convey! It's funny how we can see some things so clearly in others while not always seeing it for ourselves! I must admit there are a few things I've been meaning to change (like my bio which is very outdated). Obviously, these things need to be higher on my priority list. You caught me like the plumber who puts his clients first and doesn't get around to fixing his own tap! As far as my target market, I do feel quite strongly about working with Women Leaders and doing Leadership Coaching with them. It's non-negotiable in my books. In my Executive Coaching training, the terms "Leaders" and "Executives" are interchangable. To me, an Executive is a Leader and so is the Business Woman or Entrepreneur who is CEO of her own business. I love working with decision makers! What I did learn is that I need to avoid opening up the Leadership term beyond what I described above. I'm also wondering if there is a misunderstanding with the general public as to what Leadership Coaching really is. Leadership Coaching is all about developing your leadership skills, both as a people manager and in more effectively running and growing the business. There is ALWAYS room for growth in some way. As well, sometimes, we just need a sounding board to clarify what our next BEST step is. In fact, if a woman thinks she has nothing to work on, then we aren't a good Client/Coach fit anyway. How can she grow if she doesn't see the value of expressing ALL of the great ability within her? How can her company grow if she doesn't see the value of strategic planning for the next best level? Thanks again to you all! I will go back to my website and really question whether I am conveying the right message. I got more than I bargained for in this Spotlight... you generously offered way more than I was asking. I think we could be on to something great for the Forum. Now it's time to let someone else have the spotlight. It would be great if everyone took a turn! In gratitude, Tami
Re: Service Or Product? Re: Service Or Product? - I agree with starting a Service-based Business in the economy. Here is what I think is critical: 1. Researching that your Service business has a market. 2. Marketing the Service with as much leverage as possible. 3. Product-izing the Service (aka Package Expert Knowledge). This will only help elevate you as "the" expert in your niche and make you accessible to people in different price points.
Re: How do you budget your life? Re: How do you budget your life? - Here is my financial management categories for today: 15% Long Term Savings; 10% Home Expenses; 45% Business and Marketing charges; 10% Friends (Meeting); 20$ Scientific and Law Books. But this will change when it is August or September. Orxan
My entry My entry - 1. The Best Business Books Ever: The 100 Most Influential Business Books You'll Never Have Time to Read - this is a fascinating book about the history of Business theory, and I'd recommend it to anybody. 2. The Big Book of Small Business: You Don't Have to Run Your Business by the Seat of Your Pants, by Tom Gegax. Ditto. 3. PADI: The Business of Diving Book Okay, so this book won't be of use to anyone who doesn't want to start a scuba store, but I did, and this book was of course invaluable to me in reaching that goal.
Re: Trade Shows - Are They Worth It? Re: Trade Shows - Are They Worth It? - HI, I have used trade shows (not participated) to collect potential clients. For example, the Home & Garden Industry is extremely behind the time in regards to their websites. I attended an Home & Garden Expo in Denver and collected all the companies contact information. I plan on cold calling & mailing information to each business. It also gave me time to research the industry more, talk directly to the owners in many cases, and learn more about what they need.
