Home Business Expert: How To Advertise On The Internet

Working from home could be real fun for anyone who is willing to put in that extra bit. There is really nothing like starting your own home business that will help you stay at home close to your kids and working the hours you want. But to be successful, the work at home mom definitely needs sound knowledge of how to advertise on the Internet effectively. Like any other business, a home-based business too needs proper marketing. Advertising is a kind of marketing that is used to stimulate the public to patronize the service or product that is being offered.

So how do you advertise on the Internet? To begin with, it is important for you to know that advertising on the Internet is not the same as advertising on the television, putting in ad insertions on the newspaper or advertising on the billboards. The Internet is a one-to-one medium in other words, you as the advertiser are speaking to one single person because at any time, just one person is sitting in front of the computer. So your message has to address the concerns of that person and make him interested in whatever you are offering.

Here are a few ways to advertise on the Internet

PPC Campaigns : PPC or pay per click' campaigns can be run at the search engines such as Google (Google Adwords), Yahoo (Search Marketing) and MSN (Adcenter). These are the advertisements you see on the search result page when you type in a keyword. These are text advertisements that are displayed with a link that takes the visitor to your web page. However you can also advertise on the Content Network' at Google, wherein your advertisement will not be displayed at the search result page, but in many other web pages having similar content.

Banner advertisement : While PPC advertisements are basically text based, banner advertisements on the other hand are image based. Many websites invite advertisers to put in their banners at prominent places that have high visibility. But you must ensure that the website where you are putting your banner gets high traffic because otherwise your promotion will not be adequate. You may have to negotiate about the positioning of your banner and also the price you pay for the clicks. Or the website may also be charging you just for the display.

Advertising in web newsletters : There are many extremely popular newsletters with a huge subscriber base and advertising there can have great benefits. These newsletters are widely acclaimed because of the information they contain and you can also leverage them for your own benefit. Often using this channel may also prove to be cheaper than PPC advertising.

Search engine optimization : If advertising is all about visibility, then search engine optimization should also be definitely in that list. Optimize your website so that it attains high ranks and then you can expect good visibility for a long time, and that too at a low cost.

Re: Service Or Product? Re: Service Or Product? - I agree with starting a Service-based Business in the economy. Here is what I think is critical: 1. Researching that your Service business has a market. 2. Marketing the Service with as much leverage as possible. 3. Product-izing the Service (aka Package Expert Knowledge). This will only help elevate you as "the" expert in your niche and make you accessible to people in different price points.

Re: Who inspired you to start? Re: Who inspired you to start? - Hi Evan, I was inspired by Mr. Bill Gates ever since I was a student learning Computers. But I was motivated for Internet as my Business, when I read his book "The Road Ahead" in 1995. It was in this book that Gates laid out his vision of an interconnected world built around the Internet. Based on the premise that life will be transformed by the convergence of inexpensive computing and inexpensive communications, Gates drew from his experience at the center of the personal computer revolution to give insights on the growth, evolution and impact of technology. I had always looked up to Bill Gates as my idol. When I read this book, it made me more focussed on Microsoft and Internet, The Internet was one of the upcoming things in this time. So I took over to the Internet as my primary business. Regards,
