Stay at home moms, for example, want to be home to care for their family but also want to contribute to the family income. Flexibility and being able to schedule your hours of work is one of the biggest reasons people give for starting a home based business.

In Canada, 1.5 million households report some type of work from home business opportunity. As with any job, there are some definite advantages and disadvantages to running your own business from home. Anyone can make the transition from employee to entrepreneur but not everyone wants to. It is a lot of work!

6 Reasons To Work From Home...Or Not

1. You could make a lot more money...or you could starve

2. You could save more money by cutting expenses...or you could spend all your savings

3. You could get more work done with less distraction...or you could sleep all day

4. You are your own boss and you set the rules...or you have no rules and you only have yourself to blame

5. You do not have to dress up for or commute to work...or your job has no prestige

6. You work alone...or you have no one to work or share ideas with

There is no difference in how or where you choose to create income you will have to work! There is no way to earn an income without working unless you are one of the lucky few who has won a huge lottery and can live off of the interest. Windfalls are not necessarily the answer to financial difficulties. A high percentage of big lottery winners are reported to be worse off financially two years after their win than they were before they won. So, they are back to working for a living.

Yin and Yang applies to business. For every advantage there is a disadvantage to work at home. It all boils down to what you want and what is important to you. If you hate your job, doing it at home will not make you like it any better. Going from an employee to being an entrepreneur requires a whole new mindset.

Your home should be more than just your dwelling. It is your refuge, your shelter from the outside world. When you bring work into your home you want it to be something that energizes and excites you. Choosing to work at home in your own business gives you autonomy that you could never have working for someone else. That is the lure that entrepreneurs succum to when they become their own boss. Choose a business that caters to what you really enjoy doing and want to do more of.

Every business needs customers. You will want to learn how to launch effective marketing campaigns to generate interest and ultimately customers for your product or service. The Internet offers a potential global market for you. You may have to take some time to learn how to make the best use of the Internet to make a success of your home based business opportunity.

PADI: The Business of Diving Book Okay, so this book won't be of use to anyone who doesn't want to start a scuba store, but I did, and this book was of course invaluable to me in reaching that goal.

Franchising & Licensing Can Be The Same Thing - FTC Rule 436 defines franchising as anyone offering an Agreement that contains these 3 things: 1. Licensing a "Mark" - which can be a trade name, service mark, commercial symbol, slogan, etc. 2. In the body of the Agreement, there contains, significant controls and assistance. 3. The licensee is paying the licensor in excess of $500 within the first six months of the actual offering of the business. Licensing and Franchising can mean the same thing today. If you do not decide to franchise and comply with FTC Rule 436, you may be in violation of Business Opportunity Laws that exist in 24 individual States.
